I thought Big 10 people were smart, let me explain...
Big 10 owns their network and sells to distributors Fox, NBC, CBS.
ESPN built the SEC network and pays the SEC for sports content on ABC, and all the ESPN stations.
Both models work great. Pac 12 tried to copy the Big 10 but no one wanted their network. ESPN and Fox got it CHEAP! But even getting it cheap, the Pac 12 network got terrible ratings, so neither ESPN or Fox wanted to renew. ESPN did offer 25 million a team but USC and UCLA wanted 50.
No one else really wanted it, because the ratings are terrible. You know the rest

What would the SEC gain by adding Clemson and Florida State?
2 more top 20 brands in the #1 revenue producing sport.
Both are also regionally based so not to frick up travel schedules for all sports too badly.

I will take Duke and both Va schools over Clemson any day of the week.
I just don’t see how Clemson brings anything.
We already have that market and they are on their way out.
Fading fast

I knew Tenn pulled in at least 3 million viewers,
You can go to just about any state in the country and see a Vols fan somewhere.
We all know that we fell from grace but we are still around with our fingers crossed. lol

They're the top brands in their respective TV markets, if that's what we're discussing.
That is categorically and undeniably not true. It's been proven many many times.
The sheep humping sister bangers have had some very highly rated individual games over the years but, overall, they are not the top draw in this state anymore than MSU is the top draw in Mississippi.
As a matter of fact SC has beaten the sheep humping sister bangers ratings in the Greenville/Spartanburg market many many times.
It just all depends upon who is playing whom week-to-week.
I do enjoy reading the uninformed, uneducated claims every time this subject comes-up though. Everything is so assumed to-be this way or that when it comes to so many things of which certain people know nothing about. You for one pank.
Clemson's alumni base is half of SC's as is their nationwide reach. Now, they're trying hard to change that through their new and massively abhorrent and insidiously evil extreme DEI initiative and they're partnering with some of the most far left wing peogressive globalist organizations on this planet ... but you people go ahead and look upon them as a good "ratings fit" for our believed conference and Southern Culture. You're easy marks ..... suckers.

Because the SEC and the Big 10 are trying to collect all of the best teams on the board so they can form their own playoff and keep all the money

I'm shocked it took until page three for the inevitable "drop Mizzou".

That whole "adding TV market footprint" philosophy was always so stupid. Who cares if you increase your "footprint" if no one is watching? FSU and Climpson are known commodities. People nationwide will tune in to watch their games. You think adding Rutgers to the B1G added viewers?
Rutgers gets the Big 10 Network into NY/NJ, so a massive deal.
Same thing with USC/UCLA, you get it into the LA/So Cal market.
I know locally here, SEC Network is a default setup with Cox.
Now, with things transitioning over to streaming, and pick-your-deals everywhere, I don't think it's gonna work out well.

I do not get it. The SEC is already in those states

The 2024 sec schedule is already off the chain.
Adding these two teams would create a schedule where your team is playing a marquee game (sorry Vandy, Kentucky and Missouri) 9-10 weeks of the season.
And while it may not bring more tv eyes in those states, in a national level is kicks the shite out of what ever the BIG is doing.
