OP asks what to do in Athens and this thread gets comment-bombed by randtards with completely irrelevant posts. Color me shocked.
Anyway...
Trappeze Pub is a great place to grab a variety of beers if that's your thing. They also have pretty good burgers. Although Clocked is supposedly the go-to burger joint. I haven't checked it out personally.
The Last Resort has great Southern food. I recommend the black bean crepes, house salad with vidalia onion dressing, and salmon & grits. Of course, if you go right after the game you're looking at 3 hour wait.
La Dolce Vita is a good italian spot. A lot of people forget about it because it has a small entrance that leads upstairs. We only waited for 30 minutes after the Tennessee game this past year. Not one bad meal was had at our table.
Terrapin Brewery - if you have plenty of time to kill, check this place out. It's one of the few places that isn't near downtown, but you can try a lot of different brews that you can't always find in package stores.
Ga Theater - Check this place out if there's a good show playing. They've added a rooftop bar that serves food. Pretty cool.
Wuxtry Records - A ton of new & used vinyl if you're into music. They have some rare finds in there.
As for bars - well there's one every five feet. Keep bouncing around until you find the atmosphere you're looking for.
Happy visiting.

IF it warm enough and there has been enough rain, floating down the Broad River is a great lazy, way to enjoy a late summer Friday afternoon.

To the OP, see the above. To the rest of you d-bags, stay your arse at home.

Get a map. Figure it out. You can also look up Broad River Outfitters. Or you can sit in the hole that is Columbia, SC. Makes no difference to me.

Thanks for the advice so far. And I don't mind the banter at all. That's the fun of this place.
We are in our 40's and will be coming from Canada. This isn't our first rodeo. Last year we were in Baton Rouge for the Alabama game, and here is a link to one of our other trips.

Looking forward to our Athens experience.

dude, that is AWESOME. i've never had a sports weekend like that. best I ever did was watch UGA vs UL-Laffy and then drive to ATL for UNC vs LSU in the dome in 2010. I hope to one day pull off that feat sir

We've been able to land rooms at the Springhill Suites. No fancy, but in Athens.
We've also got an 8:00 PM reservation at 5&10 for the night before the game. Anyone been lately?
We'll be able to get into town sometime on the Friday afternoon, and will likely go out after dinner. So I'll have to fill in the rest of our schedule. Suggestions welcome.
Can't wait.
