Mullen seems to be popular among LSU fans. I’m not sure why.

For such a simple topic, it’s impressive you struggle understanding the impact of the transfer portal is, both good and bad.

I'm not defending Mullen, I just find it hilarious the reaches that some Georgia fans will make to defend ol Kirbs.

Kirby’s been 11-1 the past 3 seasons. He’s made some bad decisions, but he’s not bad like so many on here think.

You are claiming it has nothing to do with fields leaving, so Why do you think uga needed to get a transfer portal qb?

The side walker doesn’t even know regular seasons consist of 12 scheduled games for every team. Not shocked.

Oh, I didn't realize we were only talking about the regular seasons. Why not talk about the postseason?

Okay. I'll break it down.
Trask and Franks are completely different athletes.
With Franks behind center. UF used substantially more option reads in the offense. He also had a stronger arm but could not diagnosis defenses well. Most of Franks first reads progressed traditionally(1-2-3). So the whole offense was set up to be a simple construct of progressive reads, because Franks did not read defenses well. ranks also struggled to throw in the center of the field. So a lot of the offense was based on getting the ball outside of the hashes in the passing game.
So the entire offseason was based around this idea. When Franks got hurt it had to change.
Trask can't run the option as well, so that eliminated the numerical advantage in the run game Mullen absolutely loves. So that immediately shut down a huge portion of the offensive style Mullen uses. So he had to adjust.
Trask was better at reading defense, but he also had issues resetting while progressing. That was a huge reason for the fumbles vs Auburn. Was holding it to low when he reset. He is far better at throwing in the center third of the field, so the whole offense evolved into more of an air raid style where he read the field over simple progression. When you watch Trask film breakdown you'll notice he is looking in an area, not at a player usually(unless a quick screen type of play). We attacked the middle at multiple levels similar to how Leech does in his Air Raid.
SO basically.
Mullen went from progression reads to air raid reads. Here's a good group of highlights. You'll see Trask is always looking at an area. He understood how to read the defense better and find the weak point. Which is not what Franks was good at.
Two completely different QB's. They did not run the same type of offense.
Here is Trask vs LSU. He will occasionally focus in on one target, but it's Pitts because LSU couldn't cover him.
LINK
Where as Franks. Watch his eyes. He is progressing reads in the more traditional way. A lot more vertical routes, a lot more quick outs. Most towards the sideline, his strength.
LINK
That is simply brilliant. Switching an offense mid season with two completely different QB's and styles is an incredible achievement. It's like Kirby going from a cover 2 base defense to a man based defense mid season. That's incredible.
There is a very good reason most people say Mullen is one of the best play callers in CFB. It's not just talking out of their arse. He designs schemes to get the best out of his players.

So if that’s not the case, Why do you think uga needed to get a transfer portal qb?

Read two post above. I know real football conversation is not really liked here. I think I did a fair job of breaking it down. Mullen changed offenses mid season, I shouldn't have to explain why that is amazing...but it's the rant.

You still can’t answer the question. Are you dumb in real life, or do you just play a dumb character on here?

Which question?
The one where Kirby put all of his eggs in the Justin Fields basket while knowing that he could transfer out and now he's stuck bringing in transfer quarterbacks while his fans talk shite about Mullen using the transfer portal?

Posted on 7/12/20 at 12:27 pm to Gatorbait2008
People talk about him as a QB developer, but when Mullen's offense is working at its best the zone blocking is the key. It's a simple scheme but it can be very effective

The questions are:
1. why does mullen use the transfer portal?
2. why does Kirby use the transfer portal?
Based upon your responses so far, you don’t know the answers for either.

The same reason everyone does, to fill holes on their rosters.
