I was going to post a pic of the Southern Gentleman's Lounge, but couldn't find one.

So that's the place that REM named one of their albums after. I always pictured it as more of a traditional looking diner. That place looks tiny.

I figured everything I listed is synonymous with UGA (as Athens was designed and built around and for the campus; it was named Athens after the Greek city which was the ancient hub of learning, thinking, and culture). Square Books works for me, though. Got me a Willy F. book form there for my 21st birthday. Figured it was appropriate, given I'm an English Major
If you're ever back there, ask what they have autographed copies of. Obviously that's gonna be a bit more expensive, but they typically have a pretty good collection of books autographed by the author, especially books written by Southerners. Lots of Southern authors visit Square Books to sign copies.

Is there an older continuous college bar in the SEC than George's Majestic?
Since 1927:
Good question. Probably not.
The oldest department store in the South is Oxford's Nielsen's, which was founded in 1839.
For all your overpriced Vineyard Vines needs!

Yeah, it's kind of a shack. But damn, if it isn't the best soul food in Athens!

Wish I could say Athens had an older Bar, but while we have many kick arse establishments, I think the oldest is from 1955. shite, the Varsity didn't hit Athens til 1932

Ugh, fricking penny pitchers. What a shitshow. I ended up getting hammered one night and dancing with a toothless hag townie. Those with me thought it wildly entertaining. I then passed out on the stage.

Sully may be the most important president in A&M history (or at least tied with Rudder). Prior to his tenure there were discussions to close A&M and to merge it with the newly-formed University of Texas. Sully's reputation and leadership kept that from happening.

This is the home of the Association of Former Students.
What you see in front of the building is a replica of the Aggie Ring. The area is formally called Haynes Ring Plaza, after the family of Bill Haynes '46 who donated the funds for its construction (the ring is a replica of Haynes' ring). The bronze replica ring was cast in nearby Bastrop and is--appropriately--12 feet tall.
