I remember being upset at the time, but honestly had forgotten about it until I read your post. I think it was the fact that Tubberville was a douche like Urban Meyer...

You've been responsive, well reasoned and polite. I'll take your explanation as it just being another event to use in the list of memorable games in the series and just embrace it.

has anyone told you that you're a fricking idiot yet today?

...because AU at the time was our biggest rivalry game, and Tubberville was an abrasive personality. Doesn't bother me now, so probably had something more to do with simply losing.

Well, at the time LSU was undefeated and ranked I believe

LSU was not ranked at any time during the 1999 season. We were coming off a 4-7 season in 1998 and had lost pretty much all our playmakers from that team (Tyler, Faulk, etc.). Plus, we still had Lou Tepper, whose shitty defense was the reason we went 4-7 with one of the most productive offenses in school history. Nobody expected anything of that LSU team coming into the season. Then, we opened with an absolutely stink-out-loud struggle with San Jose State in Tiger Stadium, barely winning 29-21. No way in hell were we ranked, and if we were favored, it couldn't have been by much.

I'm sure they didn't know at the time where everyone would finish at the end of the season.
Most people knew about where LSU was going to finish.

I don't know...it was not like Tubberville became any less of a douche while he was at Ole Miss.
The only thing LSU likes about Ole Miss are the girls in the Grove anyway...and Tubberville ain't one of them.

Well what the hell did he do to piss lsu fans off before ole miss?
I'm trying to find the start of lsu fans hating tubbs...two folks in this thread have referenced his personality as a contributing factor to why it mattered in 1999, but that was his first year as aub's head coach.

Thus do urban legends grow!

(Gotta say that this doesn't have the legs or the destructive effect of the "dem barners dun rolled toomers when da bahr died!" legend though.)

If I remember correctly, the way LSU fans found out is that TT and Co. took pics of themselves doing it and let them get out.
Not sure about this, but I could have sworn I saw pics of them doing it. And it was taken as an act of arrogance, that it wasn't enough for us to come in here and beat you at your place, but we're going to rub it in and smoke cigars on your midfield, and take pics, and make sure everyone sees it.
That was kinda the start. Then came the questionable officiating games, chop blocks, etc., and so it just kept building. When TT left, seems like it died down.

I know there were rumors he ordered the hit on Dorsey. I doubt seriously that that is true, but if one were to believe that they would have reason to hate him.
True, I forgot about that. Who knows whether he ordered it, didn't order it but condoned it afterward, or whatever else? I guess we'll never know.
