The only thing about it that ever upset me was that we lost. I couldn't have cared less about the cigars. Let the winning team celebrate however it wants, as far I am concerned.

I didn't recall it's being a night game. I thought it was in the afternoon.

Is it some sort of sign of disrespect? If so, why is it considered disrespectful?
Not in my mind. I wasn't mad that they celebrated. I was mad that they had a reason to.
I never really have understood the animosity so many LSU fans had (and still have) for Tuberville. As far as I know, he has never said anything but the most respectful things about LSU, downplayed and even outright denied the ridiculous claims of abuse coming out of the Auburn Fans LSU Horror Story Generator, and never really did anything to piss me off, other than beat us a few times while at both Ole Miss and Auburn. I don't blame him personally for the refs cheating us in 2004 and 2006, although maybe he was partly responsible and I just don't know it. Other than that, I have no reason or inclination to be angry with the man.

I've yet to see someone in this thread who is actually upset about it
it's just something to bring up each year because it gives us a reason to hate Auburn
I don't think there is anyone left that really cares

Fanbases view their home as hallowed ground. Be it their stadium, or statues, or trees, or whatever else. It's the same reason people get their jimmies rustled over the visiting team entering the stadium and jumping all over whatever's at midfield - eye of the Tiger, Dallas' blue star, the script-A, or whatever it may be.

Would you get pissed if Les Miles Rolled Toomer's corner after LSU won?
Not really. I'd just hope to god I was there to observe the attempt.
It'd be CLASSIC!

because you see 10 or 20 people on a random message board mentioning it?

yup, just 10-20 people
Last years game I saw at least 20 people light up cigars in JH, because of this. and as far as here, its probably several hundred that bring up the cigar game, at least

Remember this from TT after the 2007 Bama/Auburn game.
'Class' is an abstract term.

I'm sure """""""""""""NOT ONE"""""""""""""" Aubie would care if Miles and a few players smoked cigars on the floor of Jordan-Hare after a victory ???
I think yall should have done it next time you won at JH...then at worst this becomes a 'thing' between the two schools. Hell it might even elevate it to rivalry status...you guys missed a golden opportunity.

If it had happened and no other weird shite had happened in the rest of the series, then I would say that it would have become a footnote by now. Added into the continuing bizarreness that was the LSU/AU game from the 90s through much of the 2000s, it became part of the mythos of the annual game. Now it's just another part of the dialog.
I was there at the game. I sat in the stands and got sunburned and waited until the final seconds of that blowout and then left. I never saw the cigars get brought out, but I did hear about it and see the pictures later. We SUCKED in football then, so it was a nice rallying cry for the fans going forward. Now it's just another thing to "hate" Auburn for.

Exactly. It's just an anecdote to the rivalry at that time.

Does anyone think it is pathetic that a 5 win Auburn team did this after the second game of the season against an unranked LSU team that went 4-7 in the previous season and was 3-8 overall that season?

Not that it matters, but the game was 14 years ago

and it was not at night. It was a day game.

Why do you GAF? It's something fun to use as fuel for a fan base.

it's valid enough. We as fans would be mad, it'd probably last until the next time we won. What gets me is that we haven't won down there since then. To me it seems like something that should be thrown in our face as opposed to being a point of anger from lsu fans.
Sounds like if we let go of that hate y'all might win a game.
quote:
To make it more valid...lets say the lsu team after fans had cleared out of that area, came out and rolled toomers, then we as fans got told about it at a later point. To that I can say after 14 someodd years i would not care. After 2 years (or one win) i wouldn't care.
And that's why y'all are losers.

quote:Well, at the time LSU was undefeated and ranked I believe. Auburn had just fired their previous coach and the new coach won a big road game in the SEC on his birthday in pretty convincing fashion. I'm sure they didn't know at the time where everyone would finish at the end of the season.

They're acting like our fans discuss this all year long.
We bring it up on the Monday that we play Auburn because it's something to talk about.
They're the ones blowing this out of proportion now

LSU doesn't have a rival so we have to come up with reasons to hate people. Think about it.
Bama=saban
Auburn= tubby, cigars, ect
Refs= state of Alabama
Aggies= they suck as posters and as people
Ole miss= my dad didnt like them for some reason but that was ages ago.

Not sure if anyone has called you out on this, but this is absolutely wrong. Get your facts straight.
If someone has brought this to your attention, I don't care. Your stupidity deserves it.
