He has made 1 good hire. It was a great higher. The other 11 hires he's made have been awful to mediocre.

If you look at it from the standpoint of results only, then sure.

But if you look at it in terms of the decisions being made at the time and what the options available were, I think it's a little different.

Who did you want to hire instead of Napier? Did you get fricked by paying 70 million guaranteed and then get stuck with him?

To be fair, it also seems like Miami and FSU were cheap back then too. Part of how A&M poached Jimbo was the big contract, but also part of it was they didn't want to spend to keep up. So maybe it was something bigger tied to Florida as a state (all the NFL teams there maybe?).
I know that they used to have a really strange structure at FSU, where the fundraising arm (Seminole Boosters) was independent from the AD, with the result that they were sometimes not on the same page. I don’t know if there is the same friction between the UAA and the athletic department at Florida.

That is a great point, they have a flexibility right now that FSU doesn't have.

What has changed regarding the culture of that program

As someone said earlier Foley didnt believe UF had to do those other things and he told the nation he wasn't getting into an arms race when it all started.
We saw how that turned out.

He also had a mindset that UF doesn't hire anyone else's HC.
I guess he meant P4 schools but he wanted the young up and coming HC. He wanted to find his Billy Donovan for football. That never happened and he hurt UF football more than most know. He was more into ALL-SPORTS trophies than football it seemed.

BTW, Stricklin found his Billy D in Todd Golden and that may have saved his job.

At the moment I hear they are getting rid of these Foley holdovers and going all out on football like they should've before.

Florida should've never slipped like this. This was self-inflicted by the Disney Gators.
