What about another Butch? This one being an actual proven coach, Butch Davis. NCAA said he was clean, he was just the fall guy at UNC.

No more experiments for Tennessee. The team is loaded with talent so it's got to be a big hire.

Chip Kelly will probably go back to the Pac-12 if USC would open up, or maybe UCLA. I doubt he would go to Texas. Does Tennessee have the type players to run his system? Even with the talent would he shy away if his "type" key players aren't there or could he come in and find his dream QB in the off season?

Butch Davis can win, but trouble follows him like bad luck, even if he is "clean".

Bobby Petrino would listen but Tennessee won't ask.

Mark Richt isn't up and leaving UGA for Tennessee.

Dan Mullin??? East is easier and he wouldn't have to rebuild and the facilities wouldn't need "explaining", + 100k seats.

Mark Stoops would be a good hire and IMHO he would leave Kentucky for Tennessee. He has shown he can win at a tough place and he, like Mullen would be leaving their program better than they found it so it wouldn't be a Bobby P type of thing.

Bo Pelini? You can't blame him for what happened at Nebraska, he never stood a chance there, it's like Texas and Wisconsin, the former coaches and their clicks work against the coach behind the scenes. Not sure about his ability to maintain the high level of recruiting though.

He took an injury and probation plagued Alabama team (with a third string, walk on quarterback) to a bowl in his second season and nearly upset the undefeated Auburn Tigers that year.

In his third season, he crushed Urban Meyer (something no Tennessee coach has ever done before) and still feeling the effects of scholarship restrictions, won ten games including a Cotton Bowl victory.

Obvious choice is obvious

I have repeated this many times...pay attention! Chip Kelly is not going back to college unless its only job he can get. He hates...repeat...hates recruiting.

Butch Davis? Are you freaking retarded? Thats all UT would need on top of everything else...program would compete with Vandy for the cellar for the next ten years...on second thought...go ahead and hire him

Mark Stoops is my choice....but he may not wanna leave UK with goals undone. UK is for real folks. I think he would need another year and and then he would be able to look in the mirror and say he got UK headed in right direction.

Unusual to see coaching changes in the same division....so he may not want to go another team and compete against UK. Having seen a few interviews with him..he is down to earth straight arrow no nonsense kind of guy.

Who ever takes the job is going to have to clean house and it wont be a 1 year turnaround...but a good coach will demonstrate the ability to organize and put good staff together in first year. McElwain benefited from inheriting the countrys best defense, but he has changed the culture at UF and has the offense running on high octane.

Golden is already used to mediocrity and adversity

He'd fit right in!

Gruden himself said he would be interesting...so it's really not all that unrealistic if they can find the money

No. It'd take a program like tOSU, Michigan, etc to pull him away and they're not calling any time soon.

UTk is a dumpster fire program and any coach with any sense wouldn't touch it. We can afford to pay Mark Stoops whatever he wants, we're putting $170 million into our facilities, Kentucky isn't nearly as stressful a job, and they aren't likely to call anyway.

Doesn't Jones have a $10,000,000 buyout... ($2,000,000 per year on contract). Many Schools are doing this.
