You are such a brave man, calling someone scared from hundreds of miles away. Typical Bammer living vicariously thru 18-22 year olds success on a playing field because in real life you are a pussy. No, no way I want you to have a lifetime ban, you are too entertaining.

if y'all are gonna consider him to be "good" (a "B" grade), then your fan base should quit blistering him every time you lose a game
We've got a long way to go to catch up to LSU fans during the Les Era...

I'll give him a C+/B-. If he hadn't beaten Alabama last year I'd give him a C-.

Gus gets a B-
He's fits in perfectly at Auburn, they're obviously satisfied with his performance as evidenced by that $49mm/7yr guaranteed contract he inked prior to the SECCG.

I think AU see his potential , plus there isn’t much out there that could match his resume.

You would not find a single post on this board or our Auburn board where I blister Gus. I tend to have a much more realistic view of it all. I see him as a good coach, who has the potential to grow to something better. More than anything I am convinced the expectations Saban has created is crushing coaches who are better than a few 8 win seasons seem to suggest. UTk and LSU are examples of programs IMO that moved on to quickly from a coach. I wouldn't want that for Auburn. I was in favor of the contract mainly because the uncertainty was hurting him on the recruiting trail. Auburn will likely never be a top 3 recruiting school, but staying close and beating our rivals on the "right" kids has always been our strategy. The talk JJ allowed to swirl around Gus the last two years has hurt him on the trail, especially when you look at a few recruiting evaluation misses mixed in as well.
In 4 years if we are mixing a 7 win season in with a bunch of 8 win seasons I'd be ok with trying someone else. Though I suspect we'd get someone less accomplished than Gus.

At the end of the day, Auburn should've never been a place for "on-the-job" training of a HC or his staffers.
He's got 5 yrs under his belt and the training wheels are off, his job is secure, his seat is cool, his bank account is flush, he's got depth, a returning QB/OC, etc. There are no excuses left in the tank for losing more than 2 games this year.

This. He's borderline D for me. Definitely should have been let go after the thUGA game in 2016. He's not a championship caliber coach, and Auburn could do much better.

This is actually a pretty uniformed statement about coaching...technically all but a small few are learning on the job. Gus' high school background clouds peoples perspective of him.
Champ was groomed to be a head coach by elite coaches...he came from a who's who of colleges and still failed miserably at UF. Dabo is/was learning on the job and has spent more time at Clemson where the fans wanted him gone than worshipping him like they do now.
You have 3 choices...
1) Have a big time coach fall in your lap...like Saban to bama, Spurrier to USCe or Meyer to OSU.
2) Call up a coach from the ranks of mid majors...people forget Gus won a conference title in his one year at Arkie St.
3) Pick a successful coordinator...IMO the success rate on this choice has to be less than 40%.

It's too bad that you're not the sum total of the Auburn fan base then....there's gotta be a HUGE warehouse somewhere housing all the torches and pitchforks your fans had out on several occasions last year (especially after the LSU and Clemson games
I agree. Many wanted him gone, but in truth they don't think logically about it. He's done enough to keep working with him. He got to much money, but that had more to do with the market than Auburn really wanting to pay that much money.

Many wanted him gone mainly due to the Clemson and LSU Game.
After the Bama Game, his entire resume looked a lot better and the only real candidate as a replacement was Jimbo Fisher. Again, Gus's accomplishments are the second best in the Conference right now, so the $49M contract made perfect sense. We watched UF have to settle for Mullen (good choice, but not their first). Watched UT go after an unproven DC and Ark being jerked around (may be the best hire). Auburn did not want to start over.
