No wife, no kids. Just plenty of crazy ex's I'd be happy to get some distance from. :)

Does not have a city feel. The only reason it exists is because of UA. Its just happened to grow more than say Auburn or Athens. Columbia is the capital of SC with USC in it, Tuscaloosa is a college town built around UA.

All your exes live in Texas?

I'm sure you can find a good woman for you here in SC.

You'll like it here. The question is ... will we like you?

I think we probably will. You'll have a good time coming to the games even when A&M is not playing here.

Seems like he is. Nothing wrong with asking people that actually live there or have lived there about some day to day activities or attractions that you can't find by googling.

Now if OP wants stats like population, unemployment rate, homelessness #s, types of jobs available, and demographics then yeah he should Google it. But its hard to get opinions about nightlife, traffic, and how things are organized without interacting with people that have been there and experienced it themselves.

I'm pretty easy to get along with and I've enjoyed the SEC fans I've interacted with... with the exception of LSU.

The jacket and tie thing for football games is still really weird to me but I'm sure you guys think we're freakishly weird too. And we are!

USC's one of the teams I've followed the most from the eastern division. Going to be interesting to see what sort of rivalry develops.

Only guys that wear the ties are the frats. The rest of us wear flip flops or whatever, and nice shorts and decent pullover shirt. Plenty of people wear t-shirts. We're about as down-home salt of the earth fans as you will ever meet at a game. We get along with everyone ... except Georgia fans. But no one gets along with Georgia fans.

Didn't have much trouble with the Georgia fans after the Independence bowl but we had also had our teeth stomped in so there wouldn't have been much point in trash talking.

Get rid of the Vinegar Cocky!

Vinegar is use in NC BBQ. SC BBQ is mustard based.

mustard is mostly Midlands. Tomato is upstate. Ketchup is the Georgia influence. Vinegar & Pepper covers the Pee Dee to the Lowcountry, and is the only way to go. the map shows mustard going into the Lowcountry because of Bessingers & Dukes.

He doesn't get it. Like when people knock NW Arkansas I'll tell them that area is VERY nice, good jobs, lots of money, etc. People judge that area by the location in the Ozarks, or because they hate the Razorbacks. I don't like Arkansas but I'll be honest, Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers metro area is nice. It's one of the fastest growing metro areas in the SEC let alone the country.

I'm 35, halfway between Dallas and Fort Worth. I'm one of the weird ones who prefer blistering summer heat. If it drops under 60 I get cold.

Any decent Tex-Mex around the area?

The Tex-Mex here in Columbia is absolute garbage compared to the Tex-Mex you will get in Texas. So, if you do move here, have very low expectations for the Tex-Mex.

I think you would find Columbia to be a more enjoyable place to live than DFW. It is way more of an attractive area in terms of outdoor possibilities. We have 3 rivers, a big lake, and a great national park (Congaree Swamp).

Not to mention, the Columbia area is less frustrating to get around than DFW.

Metro columbia is around 800,000 people. It's a good place to live if you don't mind heat and humidity.

Mustard BBQ.

Columbia, like any other city, has its own share of problems such as the homeless population and some shady areas that you probably wouldn't want to walk through alone but as mentioned it can be ideal for some people.

Good bar scene for the youth / college students, a separate bar scene for the older crowd. Not too far from a great coastline (saw on an SC board Beaufort was named the best coastline community in the US recently), close to the mountains. Has a major college, a big military community, right in the center of two smaller but nice cities (Greenville and Charleston) and two larger cities (Charlotte and Atlanta). etc. etc.
