To an extent, yes. I didn't notice much on-field leadership. We've had really talented team not be worth a crap because there weren't any leaders on the team.

He was too thin skinned to be a HC in the SEC. He took all the criticism from the media and fans personally. Plus he was a huge micromanager.

No he didn't.
It was the same pattern every year. They would play tougher opponents early in the season and lose some games. Then the back half of their schedule would be a bunch of easy teams, they'd run a streak, get ranked high to start the season. Rinse and repeat.
2016 was a small exception only because Georgia and Florida weren't very good.

Well, it was 5–0. But 6–0 isn't "in the hunt" for the playoffs. There's half a season and then a conference championship game left to play. Butch Jones was never in striking distance.
