I interviewed for a teaching/clinical position at UAB Pathology (years ago). The chair didn’t really ask at all about my clinical expertise or teaching effectiveness. He showed me a ranking of schools based on research grant monies. He pointed to UAB (can’t recall ….. maybe 20th or so) and then Johns Hopkins or whoever was number one. He said “here is where we are ……. and here’s where we want to be: how can you get us there?” It was not a research position. All he cared about was about UAB’s rank. Needless to say, I didn’t get the job, but he saw my CV and wasted both my time and his by inviting me to interview for something that was not as advertised.
