Playing & losing in the SEC Championship game also means you get a home playoff game. Harder on the players because of the extra game, but much better for the fans.
Winning, and the first round bye is nice, but watching college football live is more exciting than watching on TV, and infinitely better than not having a game at all.
Amazing how quick the season went by.

What is the payout difference from the highest paid bowl regular to the lowest paid playoff team??

I already suggested 1st round losers should be eligible for bowl game as well but that went over like a ton of bricks.
My point was a bowl game is a different experience than the playoff game.
