That’s confusing though. Duke was arguably worse than GA Southern last year, and they lost their only good player, Daniel Jones, to the draft. Do they get some kind of P5 boost?

QB rating is a formula based on stats.

PFF grade is scouts going through every single play of the game and grading what the player did on that play.

Oh yea I didn’t even see Mond up there. Something must have gone wrong with their math. Texas State is 100% a worse defense than GA Southern.

Except for about 3 bad plays Kelly Bryant was almost unstoppable. Mizzo could have scored 50+ on the road. Bryant is a player.

That looks more accurate, to me at least.

Especially Bryant.

I mean they were playing Wyoming and he fumbled and threw are least one interception, right?

And lost.

According to the S&P Duke's defense was about 40, not sure about Georgia Southern's, but I doubt it was in the top half. On a side note, Duke's 2018 defense was ranked higher than Oregon's too on the S&P.

The difference isn’t due to strength of schedule

It’s due to the difference between purely looking at stats and and how they grade

They didn't forget, they just take the quality of the defense into account.

And yet Tua still checking in at 2.

Does the opponent count for like 50%?

these guys aren't my favorite, and I think they use s&p, and factor in way too many variables. Stats don't really matter after one game. They are only good for these conversations but until we have same opponents to compare each other, it is meaningless.

Well then I have questions about that duke rating. Their defense did not look near that good last year. Also the Only common opponent I saw was Clemson and the scores were virtually identical.

I’m less confused by the Duke one. If thy want to say Duke had an undeniably better defense than GA Southern last year then fine.

Texas State however, has a worse defense than GA Southern, and Mond had a worse performance than Burrow. That just doesn’t make sense.

So did I, but 3down10 had a link and when I looked they had Duke at 40, and Oregon at like 47 or something, and it was S&P, which leads me to believe these guys use the S&P, which is crap anyway. Remember there are lies, there are damn lies, and then there are stats.

Is that bad or something? Week one stats or ratings.....are we supposed to be embarrassed or something?

Nah, it's not about y'all. It's about the metrics upon which this list is based.
