Wasn't Napier supposed to be a younger Nick Saban?

I heard a whole lot of Disney Gators pump a whole lot of sunshine but I never heard anyone say he was a younger Nick Saban

A younger Saban?

Hell, if I were Florida I would have been happy with a younger Ed Orgeron.

To be honest as a Texas guy, between 2011 and 2021, I would have been happy with a younger Orgeron.

This is the fools gold people have been chasing for years. Saban was 57 when he took the Bama job. He was not a fast tracked coach. He was a coordinator, then worked his way up with many jobs, some he took lumps at. Franchione once beat him 31-0 in Tiger Stadium. It took all those previous stops to mold Saban into the machine he became.

Kirby...was with Saban for years. Still, he was an exception, not the rule. As someone who once worked in CFB, let me tell yall a secret....the coaching profession attracts people who are not very smart. The rare ones that are smart, are weirdos. We think these people running programs and making millions must be smart...they basically just copy/paste the programs of those that they used to work for. Most of them are idiots. Saban was the rare exception being actually intelligent and not a total weirdo. Dominating a sport full of mostly idiots was easy for him

Clay Travis said it many times over the years: Saban would have succeeded in any profession he chose, whether that be as the head coach of an FBS program or the CEO of a Fortune 500 company.

I believe this is correct. All you to do is look at some of the bone headed stubborn play calls across both college and pro football.

Napier was a failed OC who found his water level as a WRC with Saban. He was good at that job. He did well as the head coach at the Sun Belt level and that sort of surprised me. I think he just found his Peter Principle level twice in his career. He's not a P5 coordinator or head coach.

Oh most definitely. People would be shocked how stupid most coaches are if they met them and had much interaction with them.

The intelligent coaches often find it hard to get their footing and advance in their careers...often because they werent great players themselves with a name before they started their coaching career
