Was it ever explained why there were so many Vol fans at the Ole Miss game?

What convinced that fanbase that things are trending in the right direction? Jones has not shown much improvement over Dooley, and Butch just lost at home to one of the worst Florida teams ever.

All in all, I don't see how Vol fans can justify traveling in such large numbers to a road game against the third best team in the country.

Its driving distance, Oxford is awesome, The Grove is unique, Ole Miss is top 5, and the women at that school are fricking ridiculous.

Oh and Butch has recruited much better than his predecessor and has serious program momentum, despite his losses. The fans were expected a bad year. I think its admirable they are traveling.

ETA:

Other than that, I see your point.

Because they wanted to come tailgate in the grove and enjoy the square nightlife with the off chance of seeing an upset, although they came prepared to lose.

Tennessee has a huge fanbase in general and they're huge in Memphis which is less than an hour drive from Ole Miss. Also it will be they're last time to get to come to the Grove for a long time.

Why are you a Michigan fan? They suck worse than Tennessee with less reason to feel optimistic moving forward....

It's driving distance. Same reason there are always a ton of LSU fans in Oxford every time they play here. Plus UT has always travelled really well. They brought a lot in 2009 too.

Some fans are actually, well ya know...FANS, and enjoy going to support their team no matter what.

Tiger fans see their team winning 10 games each season. They have reason to come to Oxford.

They went for the booze and the bitches. No way they would have traveled that well if we played them every year, and they know the Grove is fun. Plus West Tennessee and Memphis are an hour's drive away, so there are plenty of fans willing to drive just for a good time.

Stadium was 1/4 to 1/5 Orange. Why would #3 team in the country give away that many tickets to visitors? Stadium only holds 60k.

Because they knew it was gonna be a blowout. Kinda like why the Mississippi State-Vandy game will be half empty on the upper deck.

We promised free Krispy Kreme. It was too hard to pass up for UT fans.

Not all of us are poors.

I can comfortably make trips to road games just because I want to. Seeing games at Oklahoma or against top 5 Ole Miss teams aren't something I'm going to be able to do again, in all likelihood.

Lots of Vols in Memphis. They don't play in Oxford that often. Oxford is awesome. They aren't all fair-weather fans.

Go to the Ole Miss athletic website and look at the Panorama picture. Actually not that many Orange shirts outside of their designated sections. Maybe a few more than a typical game, but nothing special.
