re: was Hugh Freeze's recruiting class last year just a flash in the pan?

To answer the question posed by the OP, I think we will have to wait a couple more years before we know how good a recruiter Freeze is.
Had we won the last two games, finished 9-3 and won a New Year's Day bowl, I think this year's class would have been pretty close to last year's in ranking.
Freeze was to blame for those losses, and in January he has paid for it because many top recruits saw those losses as confirmation that the "new" Ole Miss Freeze was supposedly building was really just the same old Ole Miss that chokes whenever it is on the threshold of breaking through to the next level.
You only get so much of a window to demonstrate to top recruits that things have really changed and so Freeze will need to turn in a great season on the field next year to restore momemtum.
That said, with a few late commits like Dupre (not predicting we get him), this class could still end up on the outer fringes of the Top Ten, which, by historical standards, was very good, even for the SEC. It is only because the SEC has become so insanely competitive that it would not look as good.
Time will tell.

It wasn't because of momentum or any other reason other than we got out recruited by some of the best. We were in the top 2 and 3 for lots of elite guys and the other schools just beat us out for them. No excuses.

By the way, ESPN has us with 12 4-stars; Scout has us with 8; and Rivals has us with 6.
I guess you were using the 24/7 rankings.

The schools that beat us out for them have been elite programs for years, so recruits have confidence that they will continue to be at the elite level. Ole Miss has not been at the elite level for a long time, so many recruits remain skeptical that it ever will be. You can only change that perception by being on a constant upward trajectory.....and we would have been had we won the last 2 games.
Not making excuses--it was Freeze's own fault that we lost the last two games and he has paid for it over the last month.

Bama and UGA are still butthurt about Tunsil.
Fantastic.
Fantastic.

Perception is overrated in regards to recruiting. The relationships and comfort level with the coaches are the main factors. We screwed the pooch on Gennessy by offering far too late and Morgan we just got straight up beat by Bryan Kelly. Winning those last two games had nothing to do with their recruitments.

Just like LSU fans have so much potential to drop the hair gel and gold chains.

247 says we have 1 5* and 8 4* so I don't know what the OP is talking about.

I really liked how you prefaced your bullshite opinion with the statement 'you have to face facts'. Fact is that for two consecutive recruiting cycles Hugh Freeze will land a top 15 class. That's a fact and a trend. To answer the op's question, another top 15 class seems to indicate that it's not just a flash in the pan. You should expect it to continue.
