re: Was adding Texas A&M to the SEC a mistake?

No. Natural rival of LSU for starters. They've more than proven they can compete in the best conference. Good home venue with lots of tradition. Opens up the fertile Texas recruiting grounds, especially with the new network TV contracts. Any Texas kid's family can be told that he'll be playing on the tube practically every week. Win-Win IMHO.

Definitely not a mistake for the many of the reasons stated above. A&M has greater upside than any additional team for the conference outside of possibly Texas or Oklahoma, and maybe more than either. Plus it makes Aggie jokes more fun. Clemson, Louisville, Ga. Tech, Miami couldn't add what A&M adds in potential. Florida State would have been a good addition but no new TV market, no expanded recruiting territory, etc.

n all seriousness, I think they were a phenomenal addition and fit very well. Awesome tradition, strong program, great fans, RABID fans. Love the add
This.
I can't think of a single program that would be a BETTER addition than the ags.
Perfect for the SEC.

No, they have fit in well and brought a level of competitiveness.
Their posters could use a little work though.

I see that as a good thing. Reshuffled the deck. Now we get like 10% of the Nazi comments we used to.

It was a win for a&m, and a win for the SEC. a&m and LSU will run the West when bama gets the death penalty and AU...well, they're just AU.

Ive always liked and respected aTm, but after seeing that Midnight Yell stuff, I'm not as gung ho as I use to be. I hope that stuff on TV was not the norm.

Great addition
Only Texas or OU would have been better, IMO.
They are weird but they're our weird now unfortunately

I do personally think it was a mistake to add them. They just really suck. I can't believe I like Mizzou better.

A&M in the SEC is great.
And the LongHorns think so too.

well we did need a homo school to make the SEC look PC.

The only reason I view it as a negative is that it caused us to lose an inter-division game. But that is also partly due to Auburn-UGA rivalry which I am ok with to keep. I do enjoy playing them though.
Their fans do seem kind of weird but I can honestly say I haven't been around many IRL.
Overall they benefitted from this move 1000x more than the conference did.

Mutually beneficial and much happier to be in the SEC. Even if utex was the preferred choice, in either scenario WE would be free of those obsessed psychos. But it worked out better for us this way.
