The conference championship game is a big win against a good opponent on a neutral field.
It matters in the final standings (only bitches can't see that).
The big xii gets left out of the playoff when they don't have a CCG. Add the CCG and they get it.
To think it is ignored is a very Auburn thing to do.
But it essentially was ignored this year, and the committee made it very clear.
The Tuesday before the playoffs were announced, the committee chair said "5-8 are close." If they were close, then OSU at 8, beating #4 would be a huge momentum mover and would on it's own potentially put them above 5 if they were already close. Add in that one of Bama's top 25 wins in Fresno lost, then you have weakened Bama and OSU got stronger.
So then the playoffs come out, and the chair says "Bama unequivocally better than Ohio State." Wait, Bama wasn't unequivocally better than Ohio State last week...you said so yourself. After that game occured, Auburn lost, Fresno lost, and OSU won a conference title.
That is what people should really be looking at. It doesn't matter that OSU didn't get in, what matters is the committee straight up lied to all of us

What specifically was wrong with Bama being in the BCS in '09 or '12, and what specifically was wrong with Bama being placed in the CFP in '15?
Nothing.

Who would you have replaced them with?
I'd start with a legitimate playoff.

I accept your concession.
I accept your mild to moderate mental retardation. You do well despite it.

Alabama was selected as a second SEC team in the playoff, to the exclusion of the PAC12 and even the Big X.
First, the B1G already benefited from this before it was an "Alabama" thing. So there is that.
Second, winning the SEC is winning the SEC.
Third, winning your conference does come into play, but it is one of many factors - and will remain so for as long as there are more P5 conferences than playoff spots.
If you don't think conference titles are relevant when you have a national championship tournament, ask Kentucky how many SEC Championship flags they have hanging in their stadium. Wild guess - the number is greater than 0.
