To be fair, in the early days of football, the private schools dominated the sport. Sewanee and Vanderbilt held their own till WWI, then went average between WWI and WWII. GI Bill after WWII gave the state schools the upper hand after that. If no GI Bill is available I have often wondered if the state schools would have widened such a gap.

The Tennessee powers that be take losing to South Carolina as an insult. The cocks have gotten more than one Vol head coach fired. It’s like the last straw for them. I’m not insulting South Carolina but it was that way imho from an outsider observer.
