I don’t really care who it was. I just recall his coach crying about it and it caused UT to back off. Either way, this involves football.

From the report
quote:

A source familiar with the inquiry tells SI that Tennessee does not believe it has committed any violations in the NIL realm. The source cited NCAA guidance in that evolving area as “vague and contradictory.”

A nothing burger.

The lack of structure within the NIL space began when states started passing different laws. That will be noteworthy as the Florida and Tennessee cases progress.

The NCAA is just trying to retain some power. That's all this is.

They can investigate whoever they want. Doesn’t mean anything will come of it.

Is the NCAA really gonna go on this crusade?
Fla St, Florida, and now Tenn.
The system is broke.
Penalizing teams after the fact is petty.
Fix the problems and it will go away.

They are you fricktard.

This is over NIL, previous investigation is meaningless.

UF/FSU/TN/Miami all for NIL. And more to follow. NCAA has no control and currently shitting their pants trying to find anything.

One could argue that enforcing the few guidelines that do exist around NIL (I.e. schools not using it as a direct inducement to recruit HS players) is actually attempting to fix the problem.

NCAA can make as many rules as it wants to fix NIL but if it doesn’t enforce them, WGAS?

Also, I fully expect UGA to get hit at some point. Ohio State, USC, etc all will too. But we’re also not sitting on probation from over a dozen level 1 violations so NBD for us

Oh horrors! Pete Thamel and Pat Forde have it in for us again. Their favorite coach is Greg Schiano.

As much as I'd love to dump on Tennessee, the NCAA is feckless and any restrictions on NIL are likely an illegal restraint on trade. The only one that could possibly matter is if the school were paying the player directly. Frankly, that's exactly how athletes should be compensated, by the entity profiting from their work.

It's not that and tbh, every SEC team should be interested in this and in Florida's case. This is about our various states passing NIL legislation that opened the floodgates back when the NCAA had no guidance issued on NIL. Schools went wild.

After the fact, the NCAA issued guidance. The question then is going to be do they get to punish schools who took advantage of zero regulation from the NCAA by following the laws in their state?

I don't think you can punish that time frame. What I find more interesting is that the NCAA is testing this with us and Florida rather than Texas and TAMU who did far more.

The problem comes from the fact that the NCAA didn't establish guidelines for that interim period. This is a mess of the NCAA's own making.
