Vandy?
It’s incessantly brought up by the board as a limitation for Tennessee.

Have you seen the Tennessee coaching staff?

Tennessee also benefited from Clemson, Georgia and South Carolina all being down in the mid to late 90’s.

Boom. When you scrape the bottom of the barrel for coaches, you are going to get shite results. We need Huepel to stabilize the program for a few years. Nothing special, win some games, show some promise. Return the stability and bring in some revenue. Give us a platform to make an elite, ridiculous money hire somewhere a few years down the line.
Heupel is scraping the bottom of the barrel though
The biggest difference between you guys and 07 Bama is that they hired a dude with a national championship ring away from the Phins
You guys got the dude who was on his way to tanking UCFs program

Don’t worry. The rest of us are sure whether he is or not

That was important for our long-term success, no doubt, but Mike Shula doesn't get enough credit for stabilizing the program in the aftermath of the Albert Means scandal as well as the Dennis Franchione-Mike Price fiascos. Mal Moore also did an excellent job of modernizing our facilities and making Alabama a desirable place for a top-flight coach like Saban to leave an NFL franchise for.

What SEC team doesn’t recruit nationally?
Missouri?

Of the top 23 ranked prospects in the state of Tennessee, 0 are committed to the vols. Only 6 of those 23 are uncommitted. Until you lock down your state recruiting nationally doesn’t matter.
It's the most concerning thing right now, but these instate kids are more privy to the dysfunction that's gone on, especially the last 5 years. If we win 6 or more, I expect half of those kids committed to flip, and we'll end up with a Hayden or Nolen as the centerpiece. Happened with both Jones and Pruitt's first class after massively disappointing 5-7 seasons, the difference is, this time kids wanna see progression, so 5-7 won't cut it.

Georgia wasn't down in the 90's. they had 4 9-10 win seasons when 9 wins meant something.

All that OP blah blah blah, and to summarize that up in 6 words....
"We are Tenn and we suck"

As it has been said before ad nauseam, the athletic department has been an absolute disaster of incompetence.
It really doesn't go beyond this. And this is a far greater problem than recruiting. You'd think the haters would be happy to accept the truth of this situation since it means far more misery for us and a steeper hill to climb than simply hiring an ace recruiter.
That said, these are fanbases that simply can't think past the idea of in state (and close to in state) talent being the key to success because that is how recruiting works for their teams when the key to our success has always been national. Not in-state and not even regional talent but national talent that draws from all corners of the US and sometimes outside of its borders.
