Looks like boilerplate to me. Hell, it looks like the opposite of what I assume you're trying to say. These are the standard pronouns, not some new and wacky "politically-correct" ones. I assume it's done to everyone on the off-chance that a name isn't clearly designating a single gender. "Sandy", for instance. Rather than single this hypothetical "Sandy" out, they just do it for everyone.
And, yes, pronouns matter when communicating with people in charge, whether it be HR people hiring you or administration people in charge of your education. It's standard business etiquette.

A simple Mr/Ms would have sufficed if that were the case.

Those pronouns are quite useful for a name like Pat.

Vanderbilt also has a fairly substantial number of students whose first language isn't English. So the pronouns cover the basics.
Sorry it isn't as nefarious as you want it to be. You're really stretching to have your feelings hurt somehow. Which, ironically, is exactly what you want this picture to be about. These are completely standard pronouns, not some nefarious plot to make you recognize sexual variations. Nothing about them is any different from what English speakers have been using for close to a millennium.

The great irony of all the teeth gnashing over SJWs,safe spaces and triggering here for sure.

These door plates have nothing to do with this.

It seems to me that you are the one stretching here. It's laughable that the nameplates are simply to avoid gender confusion or because of foreign language students.
Especially since the poster picture above is available on Vanderbilt's website.

The only thing cool about this. Is when I stare at the nameplates, they seem to move.

Hole E. shite! What has my Alma Matter done? The Hog is even a fricking rainbow!
My Dad had better not see this. He'll have an aneurysm. Woof, better yet, we need to hide this from anyone over 60. I don't think people quite remember how the older generation views things in Arkansas. Woof.

One would imagine people smart enough to attend Vanderbilt would have already mastered pronouns.

Seriously, what in the hell is ze/zir/zirs? Last time I checked those weren't words.
On second thought, I don't even want to know. I might blow my brains out to see the ridiculousness of the answer.

Engrish, many modern Vandy students do not speak it, because they asian and not Merican.

I blame Hollywood for the asian invasion. 1 old movie about beer and hair pie
