Updyke's Hideous Act was Cruel, but he saved Auburn from an embarrassing narrative

GusAU called me a POS Liar for stating the fact that Auburn Univ had admitted that the trees were dying, BEFORE Updyke poisoned their roots. Below is proof, from an AU Alumni magazine in 2007, three years before Updyke came along, that I am not lying.
GusAU wrote, "Link or it just confirms what we already know to be true anyways...you are a lying POS. Legitimate Bama fans won't even acknowledge you."
Here ya go:
LINK Yes, it is just one piece. This is not the news article I read a year or so BEFORE Updyke poisoned the tree roots. I have been unable to find it cause google is filled with articles about an Alabama fan poisoning the trees. I know other Alabama fans have some of the other news stories proving this archived. But the linked piece I share clearly states that pressure washing of toilet paper was a major factor in shortening the life of the relatively young oaks on Toomers Corner. If you read all the way to the end, they are talking about how they will have to grow new trees. The news article I read was more blunt than this piece. Years of rolling the trees and pressure washing them was killing the trees.
This does not in any way justify what Updyke did. That fool did a very cruel thing hastening their death, but he also saved Auburn from a very embarrassing narrative, and gave its main rival a black eye. But it should make Auburn fans ask why they have a tradition that kills trees. Roll something else, gee.

Do you have a legit source, Harvey?

Did you not read the link I sent? Again, Harvey not only likely hastened the death of the trees, but he made it look like Auburn fans were not also killing the trees.

Here’s your attention, you goon.

I thought this was well known already.
It's hard to find articles about it anymore because all the results are for Updumbass.

You can't pressure wash toilet paper out of trees for years and expect it to not harm the tree.
Updyke did something dumb but the trees were in fact dying because of how the Auburn people treated them.

No, that is my point, Updyke allowed Auburn to avoid having to face a very difficult fact. If you read that piece to which I linked, you can see the embarrassment in its tone. It is not blunt like the news story I read about it.
When Updyke came along, fans of other teams and sports writers gleefully dismissed what Alabama fans were saying about the trees already dying as some myth meant to soften the PR blow to Bama.

In the piece I shared, it clearly states that Auburn used to have clean up crews picking the paper from trees, but it was impossible to get it all out and it began to look unsightly. So they turned to pressure washing, and voila, years later, the trees were dying. It is a no brainer, but Updkye allowed Auburn an out.

Why do you need validation that the trees were dying beforehand?

Well first, I was called a POS liar.
Second, if what Updyke did was disgusting and vile, and it was, what are we supposed to make of a tradition that was doing the same thing, perhaps not as fast? I get that it is a beloved tradition, but if it was killing these sacred trees, then shouldn't it be stopped? Find another way to roll the paper. Geeze.

Oh so you don't understand intent?
Carry on.

Throwing TP in trees as a school tradition is, literally, so trashy.

Fr, I like Auburn but leave that tradition to HS teams

Seriously, I think Auburn is a very charming small town. And unlike most Bama fans, I can see the appeal of its campus. It has definitely improved and its older buildings are beautiful. But the Toilet papering of the beautiful oaks is just groce and harmful.

Here he is. This is the face of your fanbase now. Be honest, how many selfies have you taken with him?
Posted on 5/3/20 at 12:48 pm to Leto II
Zero. I despise him, for all the reasons I have already stated. But you now know that you were killing those trees too, so I guess you and he have more in common than you would like to acknowledge. Sucks to be you.
