I'm on phone so can't type as much as I'd line but he made the tourney at Marquette without wade, and made multiple sweet 16s at Indiana. The only reason he "alienated the fanbase" is bc Indiana thinks they should be making final 4s instead of sweet 16s. He's a home run hire for UGA and we wkiont have him if he wasnt paid accordingly.

It would be the equivalent of if in 16 richt went to Virginia or nc state instead of Miami and they paid him handsomely. Nc state would be damn luxky to have a coach with his vredientials at the time, just like we are fortunate have crean.

First report from Marcello said

3.8+3.95+4.1+.4.25+4.4=20.5

20.5/5=4.1 AAV

Now the article says 125,000 raise per year topping out at 4.3 which would mean a 4.05M AAV but the top of the article says $19.5 over 5 which equals 3.9.

So which is it?

But just because Richt did mostly well (but ultimately not enough) at a school with immense resources like UGA doesn't mean he could match half that success at a school like Virginia. This scenario plays out all the time in every sport.

You're not getting it. Richt inlt didn't "do enough" bc he didn't win a Natty. He literally did everything else; sec titles, bcs wins, finished top 3 multiple times, top 10 recruiter, etc. Those credentials wouod be a grand slam at a not football school like Virginia.

In case you haven't noticed UGA isn't exactly a basketball school, and we are getting a rough equivalent to that in crean. Good postseason success, great recruiter, NBA draft picks, and comes from a blue blood school.

I'm not saying crean is the best coach in the conference by any means, but it's laughable tk think we overpaid for him. Someone in our situation coming off the fox era should pay whatever it takes to get a legit coach here and we did. In 2-3 years I doubt people will laugh that were paying him 3m

great recruiter

I realize he just signed Anthony Edwards for y'all, but he really wasn't a great recruiter at IU. Top in-state routinely left the state, or worse spurned IU for Purdue or Butler. I dont think he once signed the composite #1 in-state recruit. He did especially poor in and around Indianapolis which is one of the most basketball talent rich metros in the country. If he could have locked down Indy he'd still be at IU with a couple of natty's to his name.

UGA is not a football blueblood maybe if yall could live up to your potential more than just that once in 1980

I never claimed we are a blue blood in football, we are not. Would you disagree that Indiana is one in basketball?

Dude Crean is horrible, He's alright with elite talent, but he's not that great with recruiting. Laugh at this statement, but UGA should have hired an AAU coach like Memphis did. UGA is in one of the most talent rich states in America and a popular AAU coach their would be able to lock up all that 5 star talent for UGA every year. Sure you guys wouldn't have good fundamentals, but the talent alone would have you in the top 25 each year

Crazy that we have a top 10 class with 4 top 100 recruits including a top 2 national player in creans first real class. I'd kill to see what a good recruiter could do.

You were comparing Crean and Richt, which made it sound like you were insinuating UGA is a football blue blood

I'll give you that UGA has enough potential that y'all easily could have been one if y'all didn't underachieve for most of the programs history

I didn't know that. Crean might actually do well there.

What exactly has Crean proven? He rode an NBA Hall of Famer in D-Wade to a Final Four at Marquette and parlayed that into a job at a blueblood where he spent a decade accomplishing thw bare minimum required to keep his job at a school like IU that has great basketball resources, all the while alienating the school, the fanbase, his players, and everybody around him until the entire state of Indiana hated him. Sounds like a great catch

He made Sweet 16 rings. At Indiana.
