As a footnote….I understand that LSU could legitimately claim two more National Championships

So that means LSU only has 1.

Alabama will have many more chances to win the NC and has won 6 while Coach Saban has been there.
UGA, not so much. Congrats though, you have reached the level of the Auburn program.

You inbred idiots would probably try to claim 19 if you did get it pushed in.
Notre Dame and USC pushed your shite in during the 1973 and 1978 seasons.
Y'all still claim the NCs.

This is such a good look for you.

Saban needs to get busy.
Hadn't realized the remainder of the combined SEC legit titles has now pulled even to Bama at 8.
Then, 3 more will be added to the mix a couple of years with UTx and OU
The man has clearly lost sight of what's important.

All that work on that meme for one incorrect post.

It's ironic too since Vols have title claims that are just as bad as Bama's 1941 claim.

Sewanee was a charter member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 1894, and also a charter member of the Southeastern Conference upon its formation in 1932
The Sewanee Tigers were pioneers in American intercollegiate athletics and possessed the Deep South's preeminent football program in the 1890s. Their 1899 football team had perhaps the best season in college football history, winning all 12 of their games, 11 by shutout, and outscoring their opponents 322-10. Five of those wins, all shutouts, came in a six-day period while on a 2,500-mile (4,000 km) trip by train. Ten of their 12 opponents, including all five of their road trip victims, remain major college football powers to this day.
In 2012, the College Football Hall of Fame held a vote of the greatest historic teams of all time, where the 1899 Iron Men beat the 1961 Alabama Crimson Tide as the greatest team of all time.
As great as the Iron Men were, I do not remember Sewanee ever claiming a MNC.

I wasn’t aware of that rule. Can you tell me where it says that anywhere besides the SOJ Digest?
Alabama was named UPI National Champion at 11-0-0 in 1973.
Alabama lost early to USC and won out to win the AP title in 1978. USC lost later in the season which is why Alabama was able to regain their spot as a share of national champion.

USC beat Alabama in the 3rd game of the year. In the 5th game of the year they went out and lost to unranked Arizona St.
When it came time for bowl season, USC and the Pac12 were pussies since the late 50's and refused to play the top teams. So #3 USC went out and played #5 Michigan in the Rose Bowl. They played a weaker overall schedule, and still had close games against unranked teams.
The USC game was Alabama's 3rd OOC opponent that was ranked in the top11. Week 1 Alabama beat #10 Nebraska, Week2 they beat #11 Mizzou, and in week 3 they lost to #7 USC.
Alabama after the USC loss went on to win every game after that, and none of them were close. When it came bowl time, #2 Alabama beat #1 Penn St in the Sugar Bowl.

I wasn’t aware of that rule
When you get beat ON THE FIELD the other team is the better team.
"We got beat by the other co-champion but we're still the champion", is for insecure, unethical schools with a need for unearned accolades.
quote:Yes, and stayed undefeated for how many days? Look it up. Beat on the field by the "other champion".

That is like...hmmm...what's that word? OH...a championship game.
There can be only one REAL champion. I'll go with the one that won on the field.

So Alabama, who lost head to head to the other recognized champion, can claim the title in ‘78 because they won the AP title, but USC can’t in 2003 even though they won the title for that same poll. Got it.

Yeah, because 2003 is the BCS era where #1 and 2 settle it on the field. Claiming an AP title at that time is bullshite because the BCS was the AGREED UPON FORMAT BY ALL SCHOOLS.
Kind of like how Alabama beat #1 Penn St on the field in 1978 for the championship.
