To each his own. I am ranking them as the 5th best right now because of the talent they have on hand that the next coach coming in is going to inherit. They are much better off currently talent wise than BC or GT.

They were buying players left and right and will likely be hammered for it. What about that don't you understand? Miami is in no way comparable to UNC. No fricking way. I'm not even sure what compelled you to post that. Miami, perhaps the most fertile recruiting ground in the nation is close to North Carolina? Wow.
And going from the Meinike Car Care Bowl to the BCS title game is a stretch...beat Wake Forest and NC State before you talk about the BCS.

Go look up John Blake.

Both Georgia Tech and Boston College have been to 10 straight Bowl games.
Georgia Tech has won a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!
I honestly think you are arguing with me just to argue.

That was a response to Al who said Butch hadn't won more than 8 games at UNC. The comparison was that he didn't set the world on fire in Miami either. He is known more as a $recruiter$ than an x's and o's coach.
Posted on 7/28/11 at 12:22 am to TheCheshireHog
He won 51 games at Miami and won a Sugar Bowl.

Right but you just said yourself that Miami is in a different league than UNC. He only lost less than 3 games one time at Miami.
If UNC is going on probation then yes its obviously not the best job in the world but if it wasn't then it was poised to be a good job because they have the talent. They just need the coaching.

How did they get the talent? Cheating. Will the next coach employ the same dirty tactics? Probably not.

One can only hope. Call me crazy, but I just believe that if Tennessee, USCe and Clemson can all be successful in that area then the right coach at UNC will do the same. Personally, I don't think Mullen would go either but it would be a great place for an energetic x's and o's guy to go to utilize that talent. I would have loved to have seen Al Golden in this job. I think someone like that would excel at UNC and could take them to the top tier of the ACC.

Is UNC a better coaching gig than MSU? Ehh, I'd tilt cities in UNC's favor and the competition factor in UNC's favor but otherwise, MSU offers everything UNC does...maybe. Cheshire is right. There is all-in-all more money at UNC than State. Hell, Merlins can't even lock down MS, so regardless he does more with less...which I guess makes recruiting a draw too.
It's all relative depending on your vantage point. If what NIH said is true about Rich Rod, then we are all wasting our time because he is even more proven than Merlins, and he has Louisiana ties.

Chapel Hill is a great city. I've never been to Starkville so I don't have an opinion of the town.
MSU doesn't offer everything UNC does. Premier basketball school, great academics, etc.
Which is a better football job. Well, it's easier to win in the ACC vs. the SEC. I'll take UNC for that.
UNC has a ton of money to throw at football. I'm not sure about MSU. However, I'm guessing UNC has a good deal more.
The SEC is the premier league so MSU takes that one.
MSU has lower expectations but so does UNC. I suppose that's a push but I would give MSU the edge because of the league.
Cowbells, MSU has lots of them. Advantage MSU.
It's a toss-up IMO except for the city. It's my perception that Chapel Hill is a better place to live.
I'd take the UNC job in a close one.

I would not leave State for UNC. Wait for something better to come along.

I tend to agree, especially the way things are going down at UNC now.

The difference is that basketball dominates that school's culture. The others you listed are football first.

That's definitely something every football coach is looking for when he is job hunting.

Never said a coach was looking for that.
However, if a recruit visits during basketball season which is more attractive? I'm not saying it will make up their mind I'm only saying which would be more appealing?

UNC is going w/ an interim, so they'll have some time find a coach.... but if they want Mullen, he'll jump easy.
UNC is a 2nd tier school, but has all the ingredients to be a top tier football program. NC is a big state w/ a lot of talent. VA just to the north is also loaded. and UNC can recruit in SC against SCar and Clemson. and UNC can recruit nationally because of it's basketball program. Mack Brown had them in the top 10 and Butch was headed that way. They've got plenty of money to lure Mullen, and their facilities are better than MSU's. I would compare the UNC job to the UF job pre-Spurrier. Like Bear Bryant said, they are just a head coach away from being a good program.
Personally, it pains me to say this because I'd love to see UNC screw up this hire.
