From Coach Cal himself:

quote:

Met with our team today. Told them that during the season it’s about the team and sacrificing for each other – which they did this year. When the season’s over, it’s about each individual player and what’s right for them and their families. With that being said, every player who is eligible for the draft, including our walk-ons, will submit their names for the NBA Draft in hopes of being invited to the combine in May.

The new rule states they can submit their name a total of three times. If they choose to withdraw, they have until 10 days after the combine. It’s a true win-win for the student-athlete

Not really. With the new rule anyone that is eligible to declare can do so, potentially get invited to the NBA Combine, get their evaluations on where they might go/what they need to work on, then come back within 10 days after the Combine date.

It's pretty brilliant actually. Go find out what you need to work on outside of your typical college coaches. For free and without losing your eligibility.

People will throw a fit about it though.

ETA: Submitting is declaring. It's a little different now.

I understand, but with the term "declare," it insinuates that they won't be returning.

The reality here is that 2 UK players (maybe 3) will actually declare and the rest will return.

Maybe they need to make a new term for this new rule. I donno.

He is a very innovative recruiter. I will give him that. He has a new pitch "all my kids last year put their name in for the draft."

Why would they need a new term for a concept that should be simple to grasp?

The concept is easy to grasp. But it's been used this whole time that when someone "declares," they are not returning. It's the stigma of the word more than anything else.

Kentucky will rarely, if ever, win another national championship again. why do wildcat basketball fans put up with this system of one and dones that calipari uses? a veteran team of 3 or four seniors who have played together 3 years will sweep them out the tournament 90% of the time.

If they all got drafted would it top draft day a few years ago as the greatest day in program history?

90% of the time? Calipari is something like 23-5 in the tourny while at UK.I'm sure none of those wins were against any senior laden teams.

cal implying "whole team could be in the nba"

leaves everyone else wondering "why cal's nba team was a 4 seed that went one and done."

well, I wasn't talking about his tourney record. I was talking championships. he's been at UK what? 7 seasons now? he's failed to win 6 times. that's an average of around 90%, am I right?

Getting to the final four is a huge accomplishment in basketball. Huge. Coach cal has been there 4 times with Kentucky. He's done considerably well there.

UK has 8 in its total history and you expected Cal to win one every single year?

How in the world have you kept Freeze in football with those kind of expectations?

his accomplishemnts at any other school in the country would be exemplary...we talking UK. I just wish the guy would build a team over a couple years, and see what happens.

This years team had veterans. Lee, poythress, ulis to a degree. Mixed with high recruits. He didn't do as well with this team. Coach cal could never do what Wisconsin does to win. But that isn't a criticism. He's a heckuva a coach that just gets loads of young talent

Some other people do it different
