I grew up listening to UK basketball on a little Realtone transistor radio that was broadcast by WHAS out of Louisville. The PXP guy was Caywood Ledford and the color man was Ralph Hacker. They were homers, but man they could call a basketball game and make it appear in your mind like it was visual. I tuned in today to the UK/GA Tech game on TuneIn and it brought back memories of listening to those games as a kid because these guys you have now are very good, also. Very good radio announcers

Tom Leach and Mike Pratt. Tom has a face and voice made for radio and Mike Pratt played for UK alongside of Dan Issel and also in the ABA. They are good but Cawood Ledford was a treasure. He could paint a picture with his voice. Yes he was all in for UK but was brutally honest if the Cats weren't playing well.

Cawood was probably the greatest radio man in SEC history. Tom Leach has done a hell of a job for us.

There is no one like Cawood. I'm not a fan of leach personally, but if we don't have anyone better, he is okay.

Oh wow! I remember him!...How damned old is he? One player was Mike Casey and a guy named Akento, Agenger or something like that. I remember the starting 5 of Louie Dampier, Pat Riley, Larry Conley, Tom Kron and Thad Jarrets of the Rupps Runts team that lost to UTEP and Bear Haskins. UTEP was the first team to start 5 blacks. I can't remember for sure that team only had a couple of players that went over 6'4" or so. Damn, that was a lifetime ago

Pratt played right after Rupps Runts alongside Dan Issel. I like hearing him ham it up with Tom on the radio. We also added Goose Givens to the UK pregame show and mercifully got Rex Chapman off there.

So good things going on in UK radio land. Not so much on the field or court!

Im ready for spring, end of Covid, and some SEC and Cincinnati Reds baseball.

I'd guess Mike to b about 70 or 71 years old. You may be thinking of Phil Argento. Casey broke his leg his junior year and missed that season. He would have been enough to put that team over the top. They lost to Artis Gilmore and crew in a close game in the Regional final. Casey was good for about 19 a game.

Rupp's Runts had the flu when the played Texas Western. People don't remember they beat an all-white Duke team in the semi's . Looking back on it if Duke had won that game would they have caught the crap UK has over the years. Somehow, I doubt it.

Artis Gilmore
Lets see, Gilmore played at Jackonville and they had like 3 - 7 footers starting. They lost to UCLA in the championship game. Hows my memory?

That's right. They were way bigger than us. Issel fouled out running up the court looking backwards and a guy ran in under him and drew a charge. Then our benchwarmers came in and dang near won the game.
