Tennessee's campus is hands down the ugliest campus in the SEC. There's not another campus even close to be that ugly.
Dumb. It's one of the most beautiful in the late fall.

i've been going to cleveland periodically for about 40 yrs (to visit relatives). that city cleaned up more than any i have ever seen. the downtown area is nice and the niteclub area just west of town (can't remember what they call it)is also cool. also, i have been in most of the burbs and they are nice. they pretty much have completely rebuilt downtown in the last 20 years. 30+ yrs ago, it was awful (real dirty industry). maybe your visit was bad time of year (the winter can suck) or you were in a bad area, which all towns have. if you have to go back for any reason, take in a ball game, rock and roll hall of fame and the night club district. stay at a good hotel (cost more but they are in the better areas). i think you'll like it.

No one goes to Cleveland unless they have to.
Seriously, I read what you're saying. I feel for places like Cleveland. They have total shite weather and they can't do anything about that. Place has been rusting and decaying for decades but there are some people still there who take pride in their home and they are trying to spruce the place up.

Auburn is ugly.
The whole campus looks like a menagerie of junior high schools lumped together in a small space.
Samford Hall is nice, but the rest of their campus has much to be desired. Always seems to be a lot of litter around, too.

I finally visited the Bama Campus 3 years ago and was very disappointed. Their campus could be a really nice campus but they don't seem to take care of it expect for the football related buildings. I will not say they are the ugliest but maybe just above it.

GABlueDog, man, i guess i'm the Cleveland defender here today. the old city was as you described; definately rust belt. almost all of my visits have been in the summer and i am very impressed with what that city has done over the last 30 some odd years. they have cleaned up the lake and the downtown. i have been over most of the suburbian area as well as my son played in the natl. aau tournament about 7 or 8 yrs ago and his team was there almost 2 weeks and played in venues all over the area. i have had a number of really good times up therre and i find most of the people pretty friendly. i guess one's attitude has a lot to do with it. i didn't dis their city and treated them nice and they recipricated. sorry to be off thread, but stereotypes are not reality.

The buildings here are old, some dating back to the 1800s. They're well taken care of and most of them have just completed renovations.
Even if renovations have taken place in the last 3 years, they didn't look ugly in 2006. They may not be your preference of architecture, but I can't see how anyone not named Ray Charles could say that they were "ugly."

I think Pittsburgh has been cleaning itself up as well. The place looks like it would be nice with all the hills, rivers, bridges, and so forth.

Of the ones I have been to Ole Miss doesn't impress me much. Auburn is ok but not great. MSU is ok. TN - no don't like it.

South Carolina has an ugly campus???
How many of you saying this have actually been on the campus? I'm not talking about the area around Williams-Brice either. That is not the campus -- and is admittedly a pretty ugly warehousing district.
USC's campus dates from 1801. The Horseshoe where the original buildings are located was used by Thomas Jefferson as the model for the Lawn at UVA. Since then, USC has expanded greatly. The campus is hilly and tree-line. There are a few dubious buildings from the 1960's and 1970's, but the dorms from that era have been torn down in the last couple of years and replaced with beautiful new ones faithful to the original architectural styles. USC's greek village is brand new and has one of the nicest set of fraternity/sorority houses in the nation. Our basketball arena and baseball stadium are the newest and among the nicest in the SEC.
If your point is that USC must have an ugly campus because it is in a bigger city rather than a smaller town, that is a mistaken point too. The topic is the campus; not the city.

quote:Philly has some really bad and ugly areas, but it has some nice places as well. The area down by the river at the Ben Franklin Bridge is really nice. I also like the juxtaposition of the really old buildings and the modern ones. I have a picture from when I was there years ago of Independence Hall in the foreground with a couple of skyscrapers rising behind it.
Philly is saved by being the cradle of America. Too much history and charm to be at the bottom of anybody's list.

Not really, thats why so many of the people from there never return after college. Those 3 rivers are gross. The suburbs arnt bad but the city is just run down looking.

So is this an ugliest city or ugliest SEC campus thread?
WTF happened in here?
FWIW:
UT is pretty in the late fall. It's just really Urban.
MSU fricking sucks.
Ole Miss, aside from the quad and grove leaves much to be desired.
Vanderbilt,
