I'm watching this 1980 South Carolina at UGA game on SEC Network. Noticed they were building seating in the endzone when they showed a shot of the "track people". Long story short, I was looking around Google maps at Sanford and noticed you can see right into the stadium from street level at one of the endzones.

Having never been there, I was curious if people congregate there during games or do they get run off? thanks for enjoying a total off season thread.

Not a Georgia fan but there was a railroad bridge in the other endzone where fans would watch the game.

Yeah I caught that. That's what lead me to looking around the Google maps to sort of see where they would have been and then I noticed the field view from street level in the other end zone.

1980 was a different time for all of us.

Maybe ask a UGA Historical Facts Professor for how their shitty Stadium used to be.

LINK

Ask for Richt, Donnan and Goff.

People do watch from the bridge although it’s tough to see. The area where those people are looking at the field would only be for people who have been let through via a ticket though.

Sanford is a very deceptively large stadium. It just does not look like that place holds 93k people.

From street level you can only see the far end zone and you have to be on the left side of the Jumbotron. The other side has a huge standing-room only deck that blocks the view to the opposite end zone.

I can imagine people stopping to see a play if the teams are on that side of the field, but I can’t imagine people camp on an open sidewalk to watch the entire game with only half the field in view.

I’m not from UGA, so I don’t know for sure.

Not really. In 1980 Auburn sported a 5-6 record. Looks pretty similar to this year, actually. Sometimes things don't really change at all.

There is a train track the runs next to the east endzone. You used to be able to sit on the tracks to watch the game, amongst other things. It was closed in after the 1980 season. The west endzone still is open with partial views from the bridge. I watched the 1996 Olympic soccer finals from it and could only see half of the pitch.

that bridge area is congested as all frick on game day. good place to scalp some tickets if you're ever in town. i would personally not waste my time trying to watch the game from where you would be (on the street, which is closed off to traffic).

You could see from the bridge better before they redid that endzone in 2017. I remember it being packed with people for the Auburn game in 2005 & 2007.
