I'll post some more articles from espn and elsewhere that have come to the same conclusion of UAs board working actively against UAB football later as well.

Well watch out Auburn because there will be a lot of AU graduates that went on to attend UAB to become doctors, dentists, etc. that will now be pulling their funding and funneling those millions to UAB Athletics
Not to mention all the AU undergrads who got law degrees at Alabama becoming massive ROW TAHDERS

Who is the biggest employer in the State of Alabama(not including Fed Gov)? Where do they live? How many do you think a UA Season Ticket Holders ? We are not talking about supporting the Universities General Scholarship Fund, but their Athletic Programs. I know it is hard for Bammers to differentiate.
I guarantee you those two doctors will NOT be pulling their donations and support for AU Athletics and start pouring their money into fricking UAB athletics.
Just like some of the attorney's around the Montgomery area that went attended AU and went to UA for their law degree will NOT be supporting UA Athletics in any way.

Their contributions have deminished at a pretty rapid clip in the last 8 yrs - so I "think" their chance to build a program has passed.
Ding ding ding!!!
Exactly right kiddo!!
And why you might ask?
Because 8 years ago, UA crushed them and made it VERY clear that the UA BOT would NOT ALLOW UAB to build a competitive program no matter what.
That is why contributions decreased. 8 years ago, UAB had a real shot to build a legit program. That scared the shite out of UAT and they got dirty and fricked UAB right in the arse. Why? Because they were scared of what might happen. Remember, 8 years ago, bama was a big pile of shite.

Not sure insulting a dead man is something you should be proud of, especially when your only reason for hating him is likely the fact that he was a Bama man. Would say the same to any Bama fan knocking a dead Auburn legend. It just isn't right.

Do you think some of those who live around the Birmingham area would start supporting UAB, if they became successful ? The Birmingham area is a big draw for UA Athletics, and you hear everyday those fans who say going to UA games have become too expensive and too much of a hassle.

Guess Auburn better be on the lookout for Georgia State hu?
If they become successful that is going to be a big problem for Auburn as all of their Metro Atlanta alums will start sending their money to GSU.

From Lindy's in 2006:
quote:
Did Alabama Sabotage UAB Hire of Jimbo Fisher?
quote:
Everything came out in the open last week when the UAB Blazers of Conference USA were ready to hire LSU offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher as their head coach. All that remained was ironing out the details. It was to be for $600,000 a year, most of which was going to be covered by some influential UAB supporters. But then the Board of Trustees of the University of Alabama system (which includes the University of Alabama, UAB and UAH) stepped in and said that UAB could not hire Fisher. They claimed it was because of financial considerations, but that excuse doesn’t hold water since the bulk of Fisher’s salary was going to be covered by boosters. Apparently, the Board of Trustees realized UAB was about to hire the most coveted assistant coach in the country. They realized It also could mean that UAB might wind up with a better coach than Alabama, and the idea panicked the Board of Trustees. They decided that couldn’t happen, so they stepped in and overstepped the boundaries of a Board. They took the hiring of UAB’s coach right out of UAB’s hands. Not only did they not allow UAB to hire Fisher, they then imposed their own handpicked candidate on UAB. They strongly suggested Neil Callaway, Georgia’s offensive coordinator, was the acceptable choice for UAB. The Board will deny the Callaway link, but after the Fisher debacle there is no other explanation for UAB turning to Callaway, a former Alabama player with no head coaching experience that no other school on the planet was looking to hire. Fisher had no head coaching experience either, but he has been coveted by schools before and will be again; Callaway has not. Fisher is thought to be the next Bob Stoops waiting to happen; Callaway is not. There is one other possible explanation. The Alabama job is still open and there are plenty in Tuscaloosa who believe Nick Saban is going to leave the Miami Dolphins after Miami’s season ends. If Saban were to actually take the UA job, perhaps he would bring his old offensive coordinator from LSU with him, and that would be Jimbo Fisher. Then, in four of five years when Saban got the inevitable itch to move on, it would be an easy move to elevate Fisher to the head coaching job at Alabama, which could be what the UA Board of Trustees wants all along. That way they could achieve two goals–they could get one of the hottest coaches in the country at Alabama and simultaneously knock the pins out from under the UAB football program, making sure it continued to struggle along until perhaps just giving up the ghost and dropping football. That would delight the University of Alabama Board of Trustees. - See more at: LINK

I mean seriously, if Auburn or Alabama are playing ball on a fall Saturday are they going to attend one of those games or are they going to run over the new UAB stadium at watch the Blazers play ball?

Hell, if I lived in B'ham and couldn't afford to travel to a UA or AU game, I'd sit my arse at home and watch 'em TV before I'd travel across town to see UAB play.

Difference: AU is not afraid of success at GSU. If they were, they could not do anything about it. But Bama's actions prove a different story with UAB.

Ok, here is cbs sports. I'll find one from espn, yahoo, whatever the frick your dumb gump arse wants.
'Little Bear' Bryant crosses line again in denying UAB
quote:
A ghost from the grave is running the Alabama football program ... and running the program at UAB into the dirt.
Oh, wait. That's no ghoul. It's not Bear Bryant, who died in 1983.
It's his son, Paul Bryant Jr.
Little Bear wouldn't return messages from CBS SportsLine.com, so this will just have to be said without a rebuttal: Paul Bryant Jr., with a murky background and clear conflict of interest, has no business exerting influence over the football program at UAB.
We'll get to Little Bear's background in a minute, but for now, understand something. The UAB football program just made the most dreadful hire of the offseason, hiring someone with questionable experience and character. His name is Neil Callaway, the offensive coordinator at Georgia, which you might have noticed was horrible this season on offense. The last thing Callaway did of note was plead guilty to DUI charges in 2003.
This is the new UAB coach. He's a lousy choice. Which is apparently what Little Bear wanted.
Little Bear sits on the University of Alabama Board of Trustees. From there, he wields all sorts of authority over Alabama and its state step-sister, UAB. Little Bear, who once gave $10 million to the Crimson Tide athletics department, is close friends with Alabama AD Mal Moore, who keeps his job despite a proven inability to pick a quality football coach.
What happens to Alabama football, however, is not our concern. Bear Bryant Sr. built the Crimson Tide into the South's most fearsome franchise, and if his boy tears it all the way down, well, there is symmetry in that.
What has happened this month to UAB, however, is an outrage. Essentially, Little Bear's Board of Trustees blocked UAB from hiring the football coach it wanted. Twice. And the second time, Little Bear's Board stopped UAB from hiring the coach it wanted because, presumably, the coach UAB wanted -- Jimbo Fisher -- might also be wanted by Alabama.
Ugly, but that's the deal, based on SportsLine.com conversations with sources close to the situation.
