Which makes it even a bigger joke. I think Florida will be lucky to score at all in this game.

Yet Florida should be ranked ahead of us at number 2.

What's even funnier is that you'll be trying to beat Georgia next week for a chance to play UF in Miami.

Trying to make sense of the BCS rankings
Depends how many teams you goober. We'd be in an 8 team playoff without question. And we very well might be in a 4 team playoff by the end of the season, especially once UF loses this Saturday and drops like a brick into the outback bowl.

Goober? What...did you just start watching college football? You're a fool, rookie, if you think USC can beat Notre Dame badly enough for them to fall below LSU.

Plus, you're really stupid if you think thet your mythical 8 team playoff would ever have four SEC teams.

The BCS rankings have an element of relative team strength only insofar as human voters apply that on their ballots.

However, the primary aim of the BCS is NOT to rank the teams in order of strength (like a lot of "power rankings" or Sagarin's PREDICTOR, for example).

It is formulated to also reward actual team accomplishment and it's in this regard that it's no joke at all that Florida, right now, is well above FSU since they've beaten more good teams and haven't lost to pretty mediocre one.

The BCS rankings are far from perfect but I'd say they have it right in regard to FSU and Florida since their job isn't to predict which team would win but rank them on their accomplishments to date.

This is such good news. Does anyone realize that the last time Fla was an underdog was USC game?
We do better when placed as an underdog. A&M, LSU we were expected to lose.

7 points ? No problem. We are # 4 ranked BCS and # 6 in media/coaches polls.

Offense? Who needs it if you hold the other team scoreless? A 50 yd FG wins the game and the bitching will start. You young students are too soft and dont know what tough hardnose football is all about. Bring back the leather helmuts. You should be made to watch 1962-1964 NFL football and watch Robistelli destroy qbs, rbs or anyone else in his way....or Sam Huff try to rip off the heads of ball carriers, ditto Nietzche (sp)and a lot of others. Or watch Jim Mackey, Jim Taylor, Jim Brown, Mike Ditka drag two or three tacklers on their backs into end zones. Watch YA Title (bald eagle), Norm Snead, Sonny Jorgenson, Johnny Unitas, Bart Starr, R. Gabriel and a lot of other qbs get right back up after being blindsided, blood spurting from their mouths.
You cant handle the truth! Boom is molding UF into the toughest football team in the country, I know it, you know it and they know it. Nothing you can do to stop it.

Sounds about right to ne.

Also, #2 Bama was a 2 point favorite v. #1 LSU in New Orleans last January.
It is all about betting lines, not rankings.

After fsu stomps that arse and ga tech beat UGA and UGA beat Bama, fsu is in the BCS regardless of what the rest if the teams do. Fsu is a shooting star in the computers because of beating uf. Clemson bearing usce will push them over. Lsu from 2007 luck.

Well they both have one loss, so the computer ranking is the reason for the difference.

Despite this fact, Florida has looked like crap for the last three weeks, and is a team begging to get beat.

It really isn't that difficult to comprehend. FSU is the better team but has played a weaker schedule. Hence, they are ranked lower but favored.

Not really. The current ranking is based on past games. You're looking at a future game.

When was the last time the loser of the SECCG (and wasn't undefeated prior to that game) went to a BCS bowl? The loser of the SECCG usually loses its bowl game too...especially if it is a BCS game.

Umm. Wtf does any of that have to do with UF & FSU?
