I did not want to put this on the death row thread, and while it would seem like an off season topic, a lot of us are traveling around.

Have any of you tried the restaurants True South has shown, and are they as good as advertised?

Bright Star in Bessemer.

There was one in homewood too, but I can’t think of the name. It’s on the curve and Greek.

That show is terrible. They'd be better off letting Wright Thompson narrate, and that is saying something.

The guy speaking has one of he least-appealing Southern accents I've ever heard. Its hard to listen to.

I'm a Wright Thompson fan, and wanted to like that show sooo bad, but they got so woke at some point I just stopped watching.

(The food and stories were interesting, but the endless waxing poetic about past struggles was too much for a lighter niche show, IMO.)

I've had the Snapper throats at the Bright Star.
As tasty as advertised.

Wright Thompson is 50/50 for me. Sometimes I like his knowledge on interesting food spots along the south then other times he tries so hard to be the "Southern but in a cool Drive By Truckers way" guy.

btw... Bright Star is overrated in MY opinion.

It's the history and atmosphere! Very family centered. The "BEAR" Loved it!

Believe me, it is an absolute classic spot. Just in a shithole area and food is pretty good. Def recommend if you've never been.
