Trevor Lacey transfering from Bama hoops
I see where you're coming from but, I just think Bama has the history and the resources to be the 2nd best basketball team in this league. If not the best every year or so. Therefore, we should be hiring the best coach we can get. Amirite?

1. He's not available...NCAA show cause lasts another season.
2. If he was available, he wouldn't be the best available, because if you're talking about all those vast resources coming into play, we could someone with more success and more recent success.
3. There is absolutely no chance in hell that Alabama hires a guy with a track record of lying to NCAA investigators, a reputation for showing up at fundraisers with mistresses, of showing up at colleagues' events and stealing the spotlight (yeah, the Lady Vol game), etc., etc.

This may just make Bill Battle's decision that much easier next year. He's already axed the women's basketball coach, but that was an easy call. Still, you can't justify playing someone 1.8 million a year with average results. 20-23 wins a year is nice, but only one NCAA appearance is unacceptable.

This hurts, but I don't think this transfer is a death blow to Grant's tenure unless it leads to other transfers.

It's certainly a crossroads in the program. Either a sign of future collapse or the spark that turns the corner as a signal to the other players that lazy, inconsistent play is not tolerated.

I hope this Bruce Pearl crap stops with the fans. It is not happening. Why on earth would you invite that shite show to town? I don't care how good he is. It isn't worth the risk. Alabama has enough problems in the past with the NCAA and coaches not keeping their zipper closed.

Yes, but it wouldn't matter what he got fired for. As long as he has NCAA troubles he's not worth it. That stuff endangers more than just the basketball program. It can hurt football as well. That's our bellcow and every athletic program, the University, and the city counts on it.

You clearly need to look at the history of this league then. Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas all have arguments to be there in 2nd behind Kentucky. Alabama has the total wins, LSU has the final fours, and Arkansas has the national title. Of course Florida has to fit there somewhere with their recent success.

What's the point in firing Grant? It'll just be a waste. After all, Alabama could hire Phil fricking Knight and the basketball program would still be average every year.

Alabama was more than average under C.M Newton and Wimp Sanderson. Hell, it even won a SEC title under Gotfried before he mailed it in.

History says Alabama can lay claim to that. Who's to say the right coach can't use the resources available to compete at a high level? It's never going to be Kentucky, maybe not even Florida, but there's no reason Alabama can't be a yearly contender for a NCAA tournament run.

No it can't. Its about the tournament.

UK
Arkansas/UF

LSU/Bama/UT

As mediocre as Florida was for so long - you can't even begin to argue 4 final fours and 2 NC's. Arkansas history is also clearly ahead of the next group of 3. You cite wins - (which Alabama has had more opportunities) - but the biggest factors are always going to be SEC championships and NCAA tournament success. That's all people will ultimately care about at the end of the day. No one will care that Vandy won the SECT 2 years ago - it was all about UK. SECT championships and wins would follow.

Also - Alabama's facilities aren't all that great and the fan support for basketball is only slightly above average and falls behind UK/Mizzou/Arkansas/UT. Arkansas is generally the most well rounded next best program.
