Eyewitness in the AJC article towards the end. Granted it follows up with speculation as the physics of severing the utilities pole, tree limbs, and breaking the front door on an apt. Regardless, a car that recent likely has a block box system and that data will likely be released when the investigation is concluded.

Paywall. Can you tell us what the eye witness said and anything about the eye witness?

It was an “eyewitness to the aftermath” asking how fast you’d have to be going to do that kinda damage.

She saw the power line sparking and called 911. Didn't see the accident.
Looking at the pictures it's hard to figure out how this happened other than it appears the Expedition jumped the curb at a high rate, hit the pole and trees and impacted the pavement in front of the apartment at a sharp angle.

There are two survivors who should have a pretty good idea about alcohol and what happened. IDK

If what I am seeing is accurate, then there was another player who following them and saw it happen and was first on scene so they will also have his report as well.
Oh just saw this was already posted.

There has been one article that stated Willock was ejected from the car, that the car spilt 2 power poles, a light pole, trees & finally hit the front door of an apartment building. A resident in the building said he felt the ground shake. That kind of damage is caused by excessive speed. Maybe the driver lost consciousness, fell asleep or had a medical emergency. Prayers for all involved. It's a miracle anyone escaped with their life after looking at the car.

I could see how someone from out of town would do this, but the map is showing this is right outside of campus? The driver was a staffer so should have known the area? Very tragic, sounds like she was hauling arse and likely using her phone and not paying attention at all or else would have known tThat turn was approaching.

Damn, that WH was just down the road. They were almost there when the accident occurred:

No, it wasn't an eyewitness.
Here's the exact line from the story (emphasis added by me).
One eyewitness to the aftermath of the accident said it appeared the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle hit several utility poles, trees and came to rest after hitting an apartment building in the Shoal Creek complex.
“They shattered the electricity pole,” said Ceciley Pangburn, a former UGA student who lives in the complex and was awakened by the crash, to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “They shattered the light pole. They ripped the limbs off the tree. And then they had to be stopped by the building. How fast do you have to be going?”
They didn't see the crash. It woke them up, they looked outside, thought "gee, they must have been flying" and shared that speculation with a reporter.
They may have been, but if you respond to many MVAs you'll find out it takes less than most people think to break a telephone pole. Some are even designed to break on impact.
As you said, if it was a modern car the data system will tell exactly how fast it was going.

No one knows what happened yet. It would be a good idea for everyone to wait until the accident report is issued instead of offering up their version of what happened.

Yes..that never happens no matter how appropriate

Accident report came out. Willock was sitting in the back seat and wasn’t wearing his seat belt. Neither was the recruiting staffer next to him but she only had serious injuries. Driver was wearing seat belt but died and passenger (Warren McLendon) was wearing seat belt and only had minor injuries.

Possible that McLendon’s size could have blocked the unrestrained female from going through the windshield.

Geez that’s so unfortunate. Has it been released what the staffers duties were that evening? In other words were they working officially or not? Seems like Uga will be sued heavily if they were supposed to be sober driving them for example.
I know all schools do this to some degree.
