Updated again with news of the day. I have put the kid that entered the portal today in the section at the top since he was a 2024 signee and not just a commitment like Ryan Williams was.

29 guys in the portal and 8 early exits to the NFL draft… that’s a 37-kid hit to the roster.
However, I would assume 6-8 of these 3Star kids were being processed out. I imagine Bama probably was expecting about 6 guys to leave early for the Draft. And I would think most every program expects to lose around 2 guys to the portal you weren’t planning to lose.
So let’s just say 17 of these exits were planned for. That still leaves a loss of around 20 guys you weren’t planning on leaving. How does a program overcome losing 20 kids unexpectedly, with possibly more exits to come?
At least for them, they had stockpiled talent… more so than anyone else other than Georgia. But there is no sugarcoating this. This is absolutely brutal with more exits rumored to be coming.

We lost 19 scholarship players to the portal last year. We lost 17 scholarship players to the portal the year before that. There was no freak out about the 17 guys who entered the portal pre-Saban retirement. The only one that people were a little bit bummed about was Earl Little. Losing 15-20 guys is the norm for us and Georgia the last few years. It's just how it goes. All the draft guys were pretty expected (and a few were more of declined their extra year than truly entering the draft - Jase and Burton).
In terms of pure numbers, the only position group that has truly been decimated is the secondary. Others have become thinner (WR, ILB). We're at the point right now where it just depends (a) how many and (b) what positions leave over the next few weeks. Losing anymore WRs would be really rough. Losing either ILB would be rough, but they've both publicly said they are staying. Domani Jackson decided to re-enter the portal would be a big loss.
