We don't claim 1908, 1936, or 1937 although they were awarded. We should claim 1908 though

Harvard or Penn would have beaten you to sleep. That would be like Boise claiming in 09.

The 1966 Alabama team was hosed by the writers that year Michigan St and Notre Dame tie and The Irish didn't play in a bowl game. Bama crushed Nebraska in the Sugar Bowl.
It was kind of like in 2006 when a lot of northern sportswriters wanted OSU and Michigan played and they wanted a rematch proclaiming the Big 10 was the best and Florida spanked the Buckeyes

Not only that, but Michigan got beat up pretty bad by USC in the Rose Bowl.

FWAA doesn't count either. LSU wins both AP and UPI going 10-0 before finishing 11-0-0. FWAA crowns Iowa which went 8-1-1. FWAA and NFF don't have credibility like the AP and Coaches.

They did in the 60s, FWAA at least.

Ignore the fact that Auburn played more teams ranked in the top 10, at the time, than USC and Okl. played top 25 teams..............combined.

This is not true.

Cute. We have 7 unclaimed titles. And we should at the minimum claim 1913. Probably 1914 too.

Auburn has 7 perfect seasons and 12 undefeated seasons.

If USC had beaten Oklahoma 28-24 instead of 55-19, no one would be talking about '04 Auburn. The only reason why it remains a discussion in SEC circles is because of how the Sooners got run out of the stadium that night.

The fact of the matter is, USC and Oklahoma began the season #1 and #2 respectively. They finished their seasons undefeated. Had Auburn not disappointed so epically in 2003, they might have been able to sneak into the national championship picture in 2004.

That and Auburn had significantly more NFL talent on the field then either team which got the opportunity to play for the title. Auburn also was stronger at every key position...QB, RB, OL, DB...except DL and that was a wash with USC.

USC and Oklahoma were classic examples of what was wrong with the BCS formula it led to immediate change and eventually to the playoff.

This is true. I've broken this down position by position on this board before. But I think I found LB was the only position that Auburn didn't have more and better NFL talent, and that was a wash. DL was advantage AU.

2005 NFL Draft

Oklahoma 11 - Auburn 4?

Now overall NFL Draft totals for the next few years based on players who saw playing time on the 2004 teams, not sure.

All four 1st rounders, yes

How did those 11 draft picks work out? I just looked and I've only heard of Clayton and Bradley. Getting drafted doesn't mean you have more talent, just that you were overrated.

Let's break it down, shall we?

QB:
AU- Jason Campbell
OU- Jason White
Advantage, Auburn

RB:
AU- Cadillac Williams, Ronnie Brown
OU- Adrian Peterson, nobody
Advantage, PUSH Peterson is the best, but Caddy and Ronnie together make it a push

WR:
AU- Ben Obamanu, Devin Aromashadu, Courtney Taylor
OU- Bradley, Clayton, and others
Advantage, PUSH

OL:
AU- Marcus McNeill, Ben Grubbs, King Dunlap
OU- Davin Joseph, Jamaal Brown
Advantage, Auburn

DL:
AU- Jay Ratliff
OU- nobody
Advantage, Auburn

LB:
Advantage, Auburn

CB:
AU- Carlos Rogers, David Irons
OU- nobody
Advantage, Auburn

Safety:
AU- Junior Rosegreen, Will Herring
OU- nobody
Advantage, Auburn

Bob Stoops hasn't won a national title in 17 years. And did that with John Blake's players.

Most of the 2000 roster were Stoops recruits. Stoops isn't the only coach to win a national title with a previous coach's players.

Larry Coker, Jim Tressel, Pete Carroll, Urban Meyer, Les Miles, Nick Saban, Gene Chizik, Dennis Erickson, Barry Switzer to name a few...

And the only ones on that list that are legit won titles with their own players too.

Looking at AU's 2004 players who were drafted, none did anything in the league except for a few Pro Bowl appearances. One won a Super Bowl as a member of the practice squad. None of those players are still in the NFL.

OU still has one in Adrian Peterson, an NFL MVP.

To say Auburn's talent was better is a stretch.

Must do better convincing than that.

Besides Adrian Peterson what Oklahoma players did anything more than what you just listed?

Did any of your defensive players even make it into an NFL game? I've never heard of any of them.

How is a defense like that going to stop an offense with three 1st rounders in the backfield, behind an OL with two 1st rounders, 3 pro bowlers, and both the tackles long time NFL starting LTs. Oh and Auburn's all-time leader in receptions was 3rd string on that team.

At least to stop Peterson (who was a true freshmen) Auburn had a future 1st All-Pro and 4x Pro Bowler in the middle at DT with Jay Ratliff, and a LB that player 8 years in the NFL to back him up.
And for your system QB we had a Thorpe winning 1st rounder CB in Carlos Rogers, with another NFL draft pick CB on the other side, and an All-American safety.
