Greg Thomas and Quinn Grovey were the truth as option QBs for Arky in the 80's.

Actually yes, YA Tittle isn't exactly a household name. The average person under retirement age that isn't a diehard Giants or LSU fan won't know him by name.

But what I was actually saying is that nobody outside of baton rouge would consider him an all-time great.

People that arent familiar with football history wouldnt remember him. This thread is about All time great QB’s. Tittle is one of them. Now if you respond, well he’s not top 10 of all time, I would agree, but being a “top all time” qb would have him in there.

I was a toddler when Joe Montana retired. I never saw him live. But I know he was good. Most people with football knowledge of the history of the NFL know who that is.

YA was before my time, but anyone that knows much about football history, especially the NFL knows YA and is regarded as a damn fine QB in his era. I was young when Bert Jones played but watched a lot of NFL games back then. Bert was also a damn fine QB. As already mentioned, the Colts really didn't have much of chance with the emergence of the Steelers, Raiders, and I will add the Cowboys too. Bert had the talent to win it all, just not the supporting cast.

Yeah, but I specifically said the average person walking down the street.

Define the average person. I may know some football history but I'm also an "average person".

Tittle's 1963 season could arguably be considered the greatest passing season of all-time, look at his stats compared to the league averages that year and he set the single-season passing TD record (since broken) being as old as he was in the early 1960s, literally insane

Montana's 1989 season is almost a gold standard passing season in the annals of NFL lore, dude completed 70% of his passes that year and IIRC 78% in the playoffs, just complete mastery of efficiency and the position

Go anywhere but Louisiana or giants stadium and 9/10 people you ask wouldn't know who he is.

Montana was the best ever in my opinion. Loved watching him play, especially in Superbowls. Dude was a total stud.

I don't live in Louisiana nor am I a Lsu fan or Giants fan so that kind of blows your argument out of the water. I think what you are trying to get is it's an age thing, which is legit, but I'm also under retirement age.

And why would I care about the opinion of the avg person walking down the street...? This is a thread about all time great LSU QBs and Tittle is #1. How does this not make sense to you?’

That and most people just don't care about football to the extent that posters here do, most people don't know much about pro football pre-merger.
