I understand that tradition just fine, apparently you don't. It wasn't about the trees or even rolling them it was/is about the gathering and celebration with your fellow fans for the victory. The tree rolling is just A by product and only weak brained people will let the change of the landscape ruin it for them. I cant stop those who want to act that way and it does me no harm but I'll chime in on any topic I find interesting give my opinion on the topic. HU only ruined the tradition for those who let him. So you're saying for the people that were sad because they won't be able to roll the oak trees at college and magnolia it wasn't about the trees?

That's what i'm taking issue with, you're trying to tell people how to react when it's not an event that is dear to your heart. I'm not a huge fan of rolling the trees myself, but i think it's ridiculous for someone to take that away and for others to say deal with it __ way.

There is a reason why this is one of the most intense rivalries in the nation.

The issue is that it has moved into the point of delusion.

I'm beginning to wonder where you get your news from...

I just saw this posted on both the AP and DJ Fluker's Twitter accounts:

Ein Fest für zwei Bäume
Auburn, USA.

A feast for two trees
Auburn, United States. Hundreds of onlookers have come to say goodbye in Auburn (Alabama) of two very special oaks. The two trees adorn the entrance to the university at Toomer's Corner for decades. Before they are taken for safety reasons, residents and students are adopted by throwing meter long rolls of toilet paper on the giant trees.

So how about a moratorium on the redneck talk and we just gang up on the Vol fans? Seriously...have you ever read the words to Rocky Top? And they call Alabamians inbred hicks?

Conference expansion took the Tennessee rivalry away from us.

Anytime a CFB tradition ends it's a loss for all of CFB. The best football may be in the NFL but the best traditions (by a long shot) reside in the CFB world.

You will NOT find NC trophies for ANY Natties before 1941 either... You will find Rosebowl trophies... There were no retroactive trophies awarded for your other Titles... Show me a picture of any pre-1941 trophies...

1925 National Championship- Alabama claims they share this one with Dartmouth. Who awarded the NC? Houlgate and Helms. Houlgate started his system in 1927. So Bama won their 1925 NC using a formula that didn’t exist until 1927? Helms Athletic Foundation started in 1941. Another incredible retroactive NC.

1926 National Championship- Alabama claims they share this one with 3 other teams with equal or better records! Once again it is the Helms Athletic Foundation in 1941 that awards it!

1930 National Championship- The Davis poll says that Bama tied Notre Dame for NC this year. This was the only one to award it to Bama. Notre Dame was named NC in 6 polls! Parke Davis is another retroactive system! He (an individual, not an organization) did his in 1933!

1934 National Championship- Alabama says they share this with two other teams. The awarders are Dunkel, Williamson, and Football Thesaurus. Dunkel was an individual who came up with his own system. Williamson was a geologist who came up with his own system. Football Thesaurus first appeared in 1946!

1941 National Championship- This is a complete joke. The AP ranked Alabama 20th in the nation with 14 teams with better records in the top 20. Once again it is the Football Thesaurus that retroactively awards it. Alabama finished 3rd in the SEC that year. Mississippi State won the SEC title..yet Bama claims a National title!

There are other false titles claimed. You need the info on those too?

A UT fan talking about 'Bama's titles? BTW, check out the photos above and that should end the debate over the pre-poll era titles. When the poll era began, selectors went back and retroactively picked champions during the years that Alabama was clearly the consensus champions judging by the newspaper clippings.

Since we're on the subject of laughably bogus titles, let's examine a few (basically all) of UT's:

1938

The Vols went 11-0 and Won the Orange Bowl, which is an outstanding season, especially when you consider that they only gave up 16 points all year. Even by 1938 standards that's damn impressive. However, they actually finished #2 in the only major poll that existed in 1938, the AP (to Davey O'Brien and TCU). As dominant as these Vols were, you just can't call them National Champions. This is the first time I've ever considered recognizing a team that didn't finish #1 in the AP or the Coaches poll, but I just can't do it in good conscience.

ruling: NOT LEGIT

1940

Thankfully, 1940 is much easier. The Vols finished FOURTH in the AP behind Minnesota, Stanford and Michigan.

ruling: NOT LEGIT

1950

The Vols AGAIN finished 4th in the AP. They also finished 3rd in the UPI and lost a regular season game to Mississippi State. Oklahoma went undefeated during the regular season and finished #1 in both polls. The Sooners lost their bowl game to Bear Bryant's Kentucky Wildcats but the vols have no problem claiming 1940 even though they lost the Sugar Bowl. In any event it doesn't matter because they didn't sniff #1 in either poll.

ruling: NOT LEGIT

1967

The Vols went 9-2 and finished #2 to 10-1 USC in both polls.

ruling: NOT LEGIT

linky

And you're talking about 'Bama's titles? Layoff the moonshine and banjo dust there, vile!

I really hate this for AU. I just hope they replace them quickly with some new majestic oaks.

Yes, Rocky Top talks about two IRS agents that climbed Rocky Top trying to find some moonshine. Those two never returned. Fight the power!
