Uh, prior to last year’s practice season, Bama had 2 losses in the SEC West and Clemson had beaten them 2 out of previous 3 championship games, though including an absolute curb stomping by the Dabos. Already been beaten by an unranked A&M team this year and should have lost to Florida. Doesn’t seem untouchable but maybe we have a different definition.

When did "signature win" become part of determining the best teams?

How would you determine the best team? Best wins? Best loss? Reputation? What?

Take Wake, for instance. If Clemson had the same exact resume, they’d be #2 right now without question. Wake is #10 and no one has a problem with it. Why?

Same with Alabama. Put Arkansas on their jersey with their resume this year and Arkansas is on the outside looking in.

At a certain point, winning has to matter, not reputation. That’s why people not named Alabama, OSU, and Clemson have grown tired of the system. All those teams are essentially afforded a bye every year no one else is.

Earning the benefit of the doubt based on prior teams shouldn’t be a thing

A real big win and conference championships have been big for the committee all these years based on their picks. A 1 loss non-champion has only gotten in when there were 2 loss champions.

SoS matters, and as far as that goes, Alabama's is in the top15.

Just go back to SEC champ in Sugar.

Cincinnati beat top #10 Notre Dame on the road. Oregon beat top #5 OSU on the road. Michigan State beat top 10 Michigan. Georgia beat the crap out of top 15 Auburn and almost every other team they’ve played.

Alabama beat Ole Miss

This is a very flawed understanding of the ranking and motivations behind the rankings.

You look at all games, not just a couple of cherry picked games like a "signature win".

The computers rank Alabama #2 as well. Here's the Massey Composite which is just a dump of computer rankings. The average has Alabama #2.

Massey Composite

SP+ also has Alabama #2 last I heard, but it's behind a paywall.

FEI has Alabama #2.

The only people who don't have Alabama #2 are upset fans of other teams. Mostly..LSU and Auburn.

No it’s not unless you think prior history and reputation are relevant

And the only people defending the committee are Alabama fans. What’s your point?

OSU beat Penn St.. They lost to Oregon.

Mich. St. just beat Mich..

Cincy beat ND.

Those are three teams with a good win. Is bama's best win Ole Miss?

Not sure how auburn is 6-2 and ranked 13 above us with beating ole miss while we beat bama and lost to #17 but it’ll be figured out saturday

They A&M and Auburn ranked next to one another as the two highest ranked two-loss teams. That is the smartest and safest way to place teams that are in such similar positions and about to play one another.

Auburn is a top 15 team. Why wouldn’t they be a signature win? They’re better than any win on Alabama’s schedule yet you laugh at them, weird

More than 50% of the SECW would do that.

I'm tired of hearing of SEC bias. Can we be real and admit what it really is? It's Bama bias. Always has been and always will. They do not deserve the #2 spot. Only Bama fans will disagree.

Congrats on taking what is 8 games played so far and making a case that only 1 of them is important.

So basically, by your own standards, it would be impossible for Alabama to have a "signature win". In fact, even if Alabama was undefeated at this point, won the SEC West - Alabama would still not have a signature win. The only chance Alabama has at such a win is if/when they play Georgia.

Speaking of Georgia, I guess their signature win is 2 loss Auburn. Why should they be ranked #1?

Meanwhile, back in not butthurt because you're a shitty Auburn fan - everyone else is looking at the entire body of work, how the teams have looked and so on. And as a result, even without "
signature wins", Alabama and Georgia are #1 and #2, and at this point in the season none of the other teams have looked better.

Because if you think Cincy and Michigan St are better than Alabama, you're an idiot. Hide behind your 1 game argument all you want, but you just look butthurt to me.

Btw, Alabama's SoS played so far: #12 overall.

Cincy: #102
Michigan St: #63
