Bill Johnson and O were from Northwestern State. Johnson older. They later joined up with Ensminger at McNeese State and then Bill Johnson (after GA at Miami) and Ensminger joined up again at Louisiana Tech. Yes, Orgeron replaced Bill Johnson as GA at Miami when Bill J got fulltime at La Tech.
Joe Raymond Peace (former player at La Tech and former assistant at Northwestern State where he helped coach O and Bill J both) was the head coach at La Tech, and he had a previous relationship with JIMMMY Johnson, as Jimmy Johnson was one of the young defensive coaches who coached Peace at Louisiana Tech in 1965.
Joe Raymond Peace helped both Bill Johnson and Orgeron get on with Jimmy Johnson because of that relationship.

I imagine Tuberville's south Arkansas roots (proximity to north Louisiana), and his time at Arkansas State competing against La Tech/Northwestern State/other Louisiana schools didn't hurt.

other interesting tidbits...
Joe Raymond Peace's wife is Joe Ferguson's sister
Peace's son Robert Peace played linebacker for Tennessee and ended up marrying Phil Fulmer's daughter

He went into the “Snake Pits” of every major conference year in and out.
Very true. What Bowden did at Florida State was honestly pretty amazing.
I really couldn't stand their teams back during that era and mainly always sided with Spurrier in those feuds, but you're right, Bowden had some balls, and would play anybody.
"Free Shoes University" or not, it's hard not to respect what he did for that program, and really college football in general.

That's actually really cool. I love how intertwined some of these coaching trees really are.
I bet those dudes could tell some stories! And wouldn't you just want to hear some "unfiltered" ones over a few drinks?

When Tubbs got to Auburn they were scheduled for a long term home and home series with FSU.
Long term? It was a home and home series '99 and '00. They game was put together in about the same time frame as all big games are

Auburn-FSU was to be the 1st Bowden Bowl, not Clemson FSU.
And Terry resigned, so....there wasnt going to be a "Bowden Bowl" Even Bobby said the game lost its luster when Terry left

2004 FSU was a 9-3 football team and had you beat them, most assuredly things would have played out for Auburn as you noted that year.
FSU was never on the '04 schedule, so not sure why you are even talking about this
