What 3 years of the playoffs has shown is that the ideal number is 6. 1 and 2 get byes. That would have worked well every year and it keeps the regular season interesting because you REALLY want to get into that bye slot.

I love this shite - "The 4 best" or the "4 most deserving."
I box as a hobby and when I knock someone out I always consider if I beat the better guy or should I fight the more deserving because his mom told me he eats his wheaties and works really hard and is such a good boy.

Well, you said that. That's one way. Either way, every team knows winning is how you get to the playoff. They know a committee will select the four best teams based on specified criteria. They know if they are ranked #5 or lower by that committee, they're out.
Even James Franklin gets it. Not sure why it's hard for others.
