On a Monday night in 1975, Mizzou beat an Alabama team that hadn't lost a regular season game in two years.

We have a history with this kind of thing. I'll be there on Saturday. Looking forward to it.

The troll attempt was so bad that I had to read it twice to realize it was a troll.

Yep, that game cost us the national championship, or at least a share of it with Oklahoma.

Average margin of victory the rest of the regular season was like 30 points, and we beat Penn State in the Sugar Bowl.

Why in the world did they play on a Monday night?
Looks like empty seats, too.

Bryant after the game

quote:

"They kicked the hell out of us. What more can I say?"

"I think we were pretty fortunate not to be beaten worse. They beat us worse than the score indicates."

"All in all, it was a good old sound country beating."

Mizzou managed to follow this up with a beating by OSU and a loss to Oklahoma on a 2 pt conversion. Oklahoma won the NC, despite having the same record as Bama.

If I recall, this was the first game of the season. Labor day was the previous week on 9/1. The schedule for the season shows that it was 1 of 2 two Bama regular season games nationally televised that year (ABC). It may have been scheduled to fill the Monday Football time slot since the NFL didn't start until 9/21 that year. Attendance is listed as 63,000 in Legion field which was well below capacity.

Mizzou costing us a shot at the natty that year sounds like reason enough to let Tua play 4 qtrs IMHO

The fact that it was on a Monday night didn't help the attendance figures but also, at that time, 59/20 to Tuscaloosa not complete and 65 north of Birmingham was not complete either. Getting to B'ham on a workday was probably a pain for most folks would didn't live there.

Sounds like a don’t take any prisoners type game to me. That must be awful only having 17 championships and not 18.

If we had won that one we probably never claim 1941 and the all the grief that earned, so really it's even bigger than losing 1 national title.

shite, we should probably not only leave Tua in we should run the score up as high as possible.

I'm being completely earnest. I'm excited about this weekend. Who doesn't like to go out of town, drink beer, eat steak and watch college football?

that was a great team. Honestly we give y'all grief about "17" but that '75 team got hosed and should have been 'co-champs.' Oklahoma got waxed at home by Kansas and bounced back. November of '75 and then the bowls that year had a ton of upsets.
