Isn't Muschamp the head coach in waiting at Texas?

Remember ... it was a pivotal year for hires. Herman was our first choice and Texas took him over mUSChamp. Kirby was our second choice and UGA took him over mUSChamp. We gambled on mUSChamp ... he seems to be grateful for that and he's winning us over. He seems to be very loyal to us and, in return, we have always been a very loyal fanbase.

It's a good fit. I seriously doubt he would leave us. He seems to be incredibly comfortable here.

Time will tell how it all works out but if he signs the kind of classes he is tracking to sign over the course of this season and next, and if he retains this current staff and keeps it intact, then he could be very successful.

Money is not an issue here. We're one of only seven schools in the country with a $50 million emergency fund which proves good financial management and we're still profitable enough to fund our 100s of millions in capital improvements without going into debt. We pay as we go. All of that means we've got the resources to invest in keeping him if he continues to earn his keep.

I personally believe he will.

I was not a big fan of the hire originally - but he's changed my mind just in the way he does the little things, much less the big things.

I like him.

I wasn't sure about retreading Roper. But that may be working itself out.

Fulmer's problem was not political? Wow... I take it you don't remember Johnny Majors? The only reason Phil even had the job was because of politics. He lost it because he started losing recruiting battles against Georgia, and he never could equal the players he pulled out of Georgia that made up his 1999 team.

Of course I remember Johnny Majors, great player. But my Tennessee friends say he drank too much. Did you know that Phat Phil is second only to General Neyland in number of wins?

Tom Herman was not our first choice. Second. Ask Rooster. Ray had short talk with a coach's agent out of Fort Worth. Hint: He stomped the Hawgs Saturday.

Also, I think Muschamp learned something about taking over huge traditional programs with fanbases that have the highest expectations, when he was HC at Florida. I think the experience was a bit of a negative one for him. Similar to what Spurrier ultimately dealt with that chased him off to the NFL.

At USC, CWM can still be a HC of a SEC FB program, and build it up and compete for SEC titles and have a successful career as a head coach, without all the pressures of extreme fanbase expectations to play for national championships every year. Perhaps compete for SEC titles, but we have a ways to go before getting to NC level...

Except for Spurrier, who would not tolerate it, that is the kind of thinking that made us the epitome of mediocrity for all those decades. Even in the ACC.

Used UF as a stepping stone to get to USC.

USCe has looked good so far this year so I give him credit for those wins. Team looked prepared and played well.

Not speaking for all Gamecock fans but I like his work ethic, his attention to detail, his recruiting acumen, his devotion to us and I like this staff he assembled and the fact that he jumped-on bringing Eric Wolford back here the first chance he got.

There is no doubt whatsoever that he learned from his mistakes made while at Florida.

Thank gosh Florida did not give him another year or he would have really blossomed after having Roper there that last year.

Boom is a 7-5 or 8-4 coach most years on avg. which is good enough for most cock fans I know. That's not bad for being a mid level sec team.

His work ethic is MILES ahead of SC's greatest coach ever.

Roper was a good hire. It was too little too late at that point though.

As an AU fan, I am a Boom supporter (as a coordinator). But, dangit man, he cost AU 30 yards worth of a penalty in the Iron Bowl. Like his passion, but I guarantee you, he is the type of guy to punch a t-baller for not rounding the base correctly.
