A&M wanted to go to the SEC, TX to the Pac 12. The Baylor grad Governor, Ann Richards, the Tech Lt Gov, Bob Bullock, and Tech House Speaker, Pete Laney, threatened to cut off state funds if that happened. The compromise was a merger with the Big 8 that took their alma maters with us. It's that simple.
