I thought the quality of play dropped last year, even in the playoffs.
How long until every team runs the same offense, simplified to accommodate new players every year?

4. Opened a can of worms.
We’re about to see a quarterback come back to play his SIXTH complete season of college ball. Plus everyone is clearly pro now and it’s not like a single player has anything to do with school, so I’m sure the entire UFL and NFL practice squads will come knocking for our bags. There are probably a hundred guys in the NFL that could make more in college now. We can call them six-stars.

I hate both the nil and portal. It has destroyed the sport I love.
Fact is. It isn’t going away. Get used to rooting for players who don’t give a shite about the school or their teammates. They are more interested in making tiktok videos with their bling than being a great teammate.
There are exceptions, of course, but cfb is effectively dead imo.

The teams with the deepest pockets will have the deepest depth and still come out on top.
The SEC is now adding a 9th game? This plus a full schedule, SEC championship, then an extended playoff series. If they do survive a college career their bodies will be 80 years old by the time they hit the pros. All for a few more bucks.
Soon college football will have a basketball season, it will never end and we will need the portal to fill in all the crippled bodies every year, and no one will know half the players on the team.

NIL and the portal have created more opportunities for the students. That’s the main thing. If fans don’t like it, remove your eyes from the TV and assess from stadium seats.

Why get used to it? There’s nothing stopping Texas from signing that three star QB out of Austin who went to every camp and home game and has Earl Campbell and Vince Young posters on his wall. You don’t have to sign the illiterate 5 star out of California who is looking for a bag.
The players care more about money than loyalty, but the fans care more about winning than loyalty. A great player will bolt for a bigger bag, but the program will replace a loyal (but mediocre) player with a better one.
It’s hypocritical, IMO.

The only way programs can win now is to keep up with the NIL insanity. They know fans won't come if the team isn't winning but the only way to win is to buy players to keep up with the joneses.
I'd much prefer the old system with players that stayed in the system for 3-4 years.
it's a new world. I hate it but what I want doesn't matter. The fans have spoken and they seem to like it.

I agree with everything OP said. My passion is definitely diminished. I also agree with thoughts on facilities. If a kid is getting X amount to go somewhere, he isn't going to take less just because of facilities.

The fans care about the program. The players do not. That is loyalty. The fans are the only constant no matter if the team wins or loses. They pay and they show up, and they care. Everyone else is a mercenary. From the admins, to the plyers and coaches and support staff. None of them would be there without $$. So please show me patrons who are more loyal than college fans?

Killed the excitement of national signing day. Who cares because it doesn’t really matter anymore at all.
