He has more. he just only has one Home Depot COY. He also has 2 AP COYs and 1 Bobby Dodd COY award. He also has a George Munger Award (Maxwell COY), 1 Bear Bryant Award, and 2 Eddie Robinson COYs. The seasons those covered are 2003, 2008, 2014, and 2016.

You mentioned nothing about coaching jobs in your OP, only that saban is the "best coach" therefore the award should be renamed..

I've said this before, but I think the coach of the year should go to the coach who best helped his team to overcome whatever adversity the best.
Perhaps it was devastating injuries, new assistant coaches to mix in, or showing some best plays based on what you have, etc.
Just because (most likely because of the coach's own previous shortcomings) a team wins more than expected, us not a sole reason to give out the award.
You mean like his OLine coach having cancer and also losing a starting defensive player for majority of the season to cancer? Because Stoops also dealt with that along with bringing up (consistently in his tenure) a perennial bottom feeder.
IMO it’s no different than Calipari not winning it most years in basketball. You don’t have to have the best record and best recruits to be the best coach that year.

I'm not debating he's the best coach in history because I believe he is, but bama expecting to go 12-0 then going 12-0 isn't quite as surprising to me as someone like kentucky expecting to go 5-7 but going 9-3 instead and 1 win away from winning the east.
I hate that narrative. That's like giving an idiot at your job an award because they had a good day of work after usually sucking.
Exactly. Stoops won it basically because he beat Florida in game 2 Other than that, their season wasn't really noteworthy.
On top of that, you shouldn't get any consideration for COTY in 2018 if you got your fudge packed by Tennessee in game 10.

Dude we've got to let them have something?! The tide might take 3 of the last 4 nattys. Give them the COY award everyone really knows Saban is the king.
Same thing happens to Belichick every year.

He had the best season Kentucky Football has had in 40 years. And the 2* LB he developed just won the Nagurski Award. GTFO with that shite.

So? That doesn't mean he deserves the award.
24-7 to Tennessee. Completely indefensible.

Sure it does. He’s matched or improved his record at Kentucky every season (so we can lay that “he sucked before” stuff to rest). He’s developed great players to their full potential. Just because y’all have a collective hard on for your Tennessee rivalry doesn’t mean it’s “indefensible”.
That doesn’t mean Saban isn’t a great coach. He just isn’t the only coach. I would’ve been perfectly fine with a Co-COY.

Saban is the best recruiter. Best coach is debatable, but he should certainly be in the discussion each year.

Bill Clark would make more sense than Kelly.

But seriously, I think these past 2 seasons have been his best coaching years, outside of 2008 and 2009, as he has lost multiple assistants, had his team riddled with the injury bug, and navigated a very contentious QB battle to it's best possible end for the team.
I hate the recruiting argument against him as well. College coaching success is predicated on quality recruiting. It is as much a factor as film study, game prep regimens, and halftime adjustments... all of which he does well at, too.
That said, i doubt he has ever given it a thought. So long as he has his team in position to hoist a championship trophy of some sort at the end of the season, all is well

I agree, it is really the most improved award. Time we live in I guess. Stoops is deserving though.
