That still went 4-7 and 3-8.

Dinardo made a bad hire at DC, and it cost him his job. I've never said that Dinardo is as good as Saban, but Dinardo deserves alot of credit for "Bringing Back the Magic". He pulled LSU out of the ashes.

I'm sure that Miles has been given a crash course on LSU history and what happens when you hire a bad coordinator or two. LSU will have a new DC next year, the offense, while good for the first 2/3 of the year, will be even better. Next year, Saban won't be able to just sit on the ball and wait for LSU's offense to make a mistake.

Oh, what I wouldn't give to have this year's overtime back and then all of the Bammer's over here would have disappeared (all except for BamaScoop and Steven4Bama).

Not exactly a veteran, but at least you showed up here before Bama beat Clemson. I just at all of the Bama fans that joined once Bama started winning some games this year. If you come on here and support your team, fine. But don't come on here and support your team by bashing our team like saying, "Les is a joke, Saban is the King, RollTide."

I'll agree with that. I lurked for most of last season before joining. Found it while surfing boards of opponents each game in the 07 season and this is the only one I stuck with. It's funny/stupid/intelligent/variety all in one. Almost all others are just stupid. By far, this is the best sports site out there imo.

I can deal with the "We're going to win by 14 pts" or the "We won, you lost" stuff, but I draw the line at "We have your old coach so you will forever suck and we will forever win 3 National Titles in every 4 years. Afterall, you've got to rebuild at some point."

We've been rebuilding the past decade, it's time for some back to back to back to back championships.

Success builds uppon itself..........but is also fleeting.

NFL: GB Packers, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh, Dallas, NY Giants, New England, San Fran....

College: Michigan, Nebraska, Penn State, Ohio State, Miami, Alabama, LSU, USC....

The list goes on. Wins and losses come in bunches. Building excellence requires talent and strength. Maintaining it requires it too. Saban has demonstrated that he can build a dominant football program at the college level. He has not demonstrated that he can maintain one. I believe Less Miles will maintain the dominance at LSU. It will certainly be easier for him to do this here than if he were at say Kentucky because WE ARE LSU. I believe that SABAN will have certain advantages because THEY ARE BAMA.

There are also negatives attached to being at BAMA (unbelievable expectations, followig the Behr, rogue boosters, etc....). Can Nick sustain this for the long haul? We shall see. He has NOT demonstrated that capacity thus far. Saying anything to the contrary is taking a leap of faith.

Good post, Sid.

We have no idea what the cumulative effect of Saban on a program after more than five years will be?

One possible outcome is that the constant drive will exhaust everyone (except Nick) and cause them to wonder where the joy and love for the game is? Saban never relents, never allows himself or his team to bask in the moment never allows a moment of joy, because you're climbing a mountain. You can't rest when you're midway on the mountain. You gotta keep climbing. Don't let yourself slack back into being normal.

After hearing this for several years, you have got to be exhausted.

But that's only one possibility. Not saying that is what will happen, but that I would not be surprised if it did.

While I've not been here as long as some of the others, I definitely would be here. I joined in June 08 and was arguing with BT4 why I felt we could beat Clemson, WHILE HE ARGUED BACK!!!!! BLOODBATH!!!!!

I swear to the good lord I thought about this when he was here. I wondered if anyone could handle him for any longer than a few years. I got a few answers to that question from a few players after the Jan. '07 Sugar Bowl while walking in the Quarter.

We've sucked arse this decade, our worst decade of football ever. That's why you can spew some bull shite stat like you did.

That is about the weakest, lamest excuse I've ever seen. That's just tough noogies about it being your worst decade of football. The 90's save 3 yrs were our worst, yet you were quick to throw it at LSU.

I had never noticed until lately what a crybaby you are. Annoying, yes, but I didn't think you were such a pansy.

Oh, check the OT about that time when he was talking about the military. That was pure gold.

Part of this makes sense but I will say this. The people that have actually climbed Mt Everest never stopped. They are not normal, they are abnormal, ie most people quit when they get tired. FWIW, Saban does allow the players to celebrate during the game (See the numerous chest bumps Saban himself gave) and the day after the game, he just asks them to refocus and look to the next opponent after 24 hours. After the Georgia game this year, he went into the locker room, got on the players about "Finish! Finish!", then made the comment "All that being said..." he looked up smiled and the whole locker room went nuts. Again, the guy is just driven to succeed and there are very few of them like that in the world. Most that are that driven are millionaires too.

The thing is that he is uniquely driven to succeed. He sees that drive as necessary. And the reason that there are so few as successful as he (or millionaires) is becuase that type of drive IS unique.

The question is what effect will that type of leadership have on the ordinary people who play for Alabama? Or will he be able to amass a team/culture of those similarly driven?

Kinda agree. I think there have been many successful coaches who were relentless in hard work and sustained programs with that work ethic. If folks don't want to work hard, they don't have to be at that school. Perhaps they'd feel more at home in Detroit after the graduate, they like to expect benefits without alot of hard work.

I'm not a big military guy to say the least. But I wasn't flaming in that OT post like I do here. I actually believe what I said.
