The way LSU is handling the Orgeron situation is unique and might be smart.

Not sure there is anything worse for a program than having a head coach that everyone is bitching about, wants fired, is likely going to be fired etc... Players hear the stuff and probably knew Orgeron was going to be gone. Instead of LSU denying it with all the BS sound bites that reached an agreement and it is out in the open. No more toxic shite being whispered about in the lockeroom, talked about on message boards, etc. No pretending. Transition is already underway to a large extent. No more uncertainty for recruits. Fans can go to the games and cheer for the players instead of staying away as some kind of protest.

Having a lame duck coach midseason at first glance seems pretty strange. Overall a very good way to deal with this situation in my honest opinion. Nice strategy by Woodward and the powers that be.

Honestly, I think it's the best choice we can make right now. I am ok with it. No one wants to shite on Ed but we do have to admit mistakes and move on.

It sounds good now. But once Bama puts it down on them they’ll be bitching about why Orgeron doesn’t just step aside, why is he even still coaching, etc

Just watch

The key is Ed O going along with it and not trying to burn it all down out of spite. That’s a bonus and an easier situation to navigate.

I really don't see how this is that hard to understand. Props to you for getting the bigger picture though. Couldnt have played out any better imo.

Not at all Daniel. We have no one to be the interim. If we had a viable candidate for interim, you might have a point. Thats not the case. Just another indictment on O as there isnt one person on staff that we can trust with the keys.

LSU is basically admitting it's a lost season.

Not sure what the difference is between having lame duck O or a lame duck interim.

A lot of folks here seem sure that it's a bad thing but can't articulate how an interim situation is any better.

He's not going to do that. I would be shocked. Would be out of character for him.

Well put and spot on IMO. The overall situation isn't favorable, but this approach was the right one.

Even if it plays out poorly, there's only one thing worse than a bad decision: indecision.

Have to hand it to Woody, a decisive and fearless move that may have set a new standard in college football.

Woodward and LSU have treated Ed with the utmost respect and have agreed to pay him his full buyout. It’s a testament to how Woodward runs the ship and a far cry from his predecessor.

There was no reason for LSU (or Ed for that matter) to engage in a nasty breakup. Both sides come out smelling like roses, and both will go their amicable and separate ways after this year.

Allowing a popular coach a swan song into "mutual" retirement is a lot more positive than the alternative. Fans will go, support the team, not boo when times are rough, etc.

Idk how it shakes out for recruiting and such but as a PR move its genius if Ed doesn't lose it...

But honestly he looks like someone who needs a break to get his life in order.

He will still be "employed" by the university for 3 years I think. They may be doing this to make sure he doesn't burn the place to the ground. He gets his money, LSU is assured things don't get messy. Win-Win

I don't understand all the praise for Woodward. He could have got the same deal for a lot less money. If he goes to Oregron, and says "take 1/2 the buyout and you can walk with lots of money, or we'll fire you for cause. Loss that battle and you get nothing" Same result IMO

Kind of hard if they have no hard evidence of wrongdoing by O.

Again, that would be inviting all kinds of additional scrutiny and bad blood.

Woodward is doing this as much for LSU as he is the next coach. How bad would it look for one Louisiana guy to go scorched Earth against another Louisiana guy with LSU, the most beloved university and football program in this state, at the epicenter of it all?

And what’s the cause? Woodward is keenly aware of all Ed’s antics. A clean and amicable parting of ways may be worth every bit of that buyout.

Lsu President - Tate,
wanted to fire for cause per Matt Moscona.

I don't believe Ed Orgeron would have accepted half of the buyout. Scott Woodward did not want to go to court and drag LSU's name through the mud. He definetly did not want Ed Orgeron under oath.

This made the most since. Boosters were will to put the money up anyway. Collections started after the UCLA loss.
